Cardboard Cities

Andy Rudak creates scenes from different cities using cardboard

May 26, 2014 | By Staff Writer

The hustle and bustle of New York, the back alleys of Paris and the dilapidation of Mumbai slums. Every city has its own feel and instantly recognisable qualities. In a year-long project, photographer Andy Rudak worked with a team including professional model-maker/set-builder/prop-maker Luke aan de Wiel to design and build these cities entirely out of cardboard. Each set is meticulously designed beginning with rough sketches to the very smallest details. Using expert framing, Rudak brings these sets to life, capturing the character that makes each city unique. Rudak describes the project as “a personal view of London, New York, Mumbai, Paris, and Tokyo brought to surreal life in the studio.”
