Singapore threw open the doors of its second casino on Tuesday as part of a $US5.5 billion complex built by US gaming giant LasVegas Sands.
The Marina Bay Sands is the world’s second most expensive casino after MGM Mirage’s CityCenter in LasVegas and is expected to generate as much $US1 billion in annual profit.
Singapore gave the green light for casino gambling in 2005, setting off a flurry of construction that went ahead despite the city-state slipping into recession in 2008.

Celebrating the inaugural SKYCITY Festival of Poker, Amber Peebles wore a specially designed chip dress worth $1 million at the SKYCITY Lee Nelson and Brooke Howard-Smith Celebrity & Media Invitational poker tournament last week.
The dress was made out of 200 casino chips worth $5000 each, and required the MTV presenter to have her own security team following her around.
Amber Peebles said: “When SKYCITY first pitched me on the idea of the Million Dollar Chip Dress I thought it was very Paris Hilton, but how many times does a girl get to wear a million bucks?”
The dress, weighed more than two kilograms, was made only for this event at the SkyCity Casino in Auckland, and will never be worn again.

The so-called Freedom Ship, a floating city of thousands, is an idea that has been tossed around for a while.
Now the Freedom Ship company has a new set of designs for the floating urban space, which looks sort of like a giant mall parking lot, and sort of like a really giant Love Boat.
Here you can see the new design of the ship. The designers estimate they’ll have it built in three years. Here are some of the specs on this giant ship city.

This is not a Blimp. It’s a sort of flying Queen Mary 2 that could change the way you think about air travel. It’s the Aeroscraft, and when it’s completed, it will ferry pampered passengers across continents and oceans as they stroll leisurely about the one-acre cabin or relax in their well-appointed staterooms.
Unlike its dirigible ancestors, the Aeroscraft is not lighter than air. Its 14 million cubic feet of helium hoist only two thirds of the craft’s weight. The rigid and surprisingly aerodynamic body-driven by huge rearward propellers-generates enough additional lift to keep the behemoth and its 400-ton payload aloft while cruising. During takeoff and landing, six turbofan jet engines push the ship up or ease its descent.
