Rolls-Royce will join the electric car club at the Geneva Motor Show, but like many of its luxury counterparts, it seems uncertain that electrified vehicles are the future.
It will show a one-off electric version of its $300,000 Phantom sedan at the show before sending the vehicle on a global test tour.
Rolls-Royce, one of the world’s most iconic — and expensive — automakers, described the model, known as the 102EX, as a “test bed” to gather research for future decisions about alternative drive trains.
Aston Martin has trotted out another special edition, the V8 Vantage S, to be formally unveiled in early March at the 2011 Geneva Auto Show.

Aston Martin’s new luxury city car Cygnet is making its global debut at Harrods in Knightsbridge, the world’s most prestigious department store.
The Toyota iQ-based Cygnet will go into production in 2011 at the company’s global headquarters in Gaydon and is expected to cost from £30,000.
Cygnet will be available to view at Harrods until Saturday 18th December with the car on sale now through Aston Martin’s European dealership network.
The worldâ€™s first Aston Martin Club Lounge has just opened its doors. The club is located at The Prime Society in Singaporeâ€™s Dempsey Hill neighborhood.
Created by Ingrid Prasatya, the lounge features custom-made tables crafted out of authentic Aston Martin wheel-rims as well as large-format prints of different car models.

The company says the new 2011 Aston Martin DB9 has received the most significant upgrades program since the model was first introduced back in 2003.
Styling changes include a new front bumper, bright finish radiator grille and a re-shaped lower intake featuring bright hexagonal mesh, new headlight surrounds, re-styled sills, silver brake calipers and clear rear taillights.

Luxury car-maker Aston Martin has unveiled its first luxury small city car, or what it calls its “luxury commuter concept” – the Cygnet.
The move represents a radical departure for the luxury car manufacturer, most celebrated for the super sleek sports cars driven by James Bond.
The concept car, developed in partnership with Toyota, is heavily based on Toyota’s much-lauded small car, the iQ.
