9 Outstanding AW’16 Fashion Campaigns

Over the last few weeks, we have been inundated with fashion news, from Paris Fashion Week to autumn/winter ’16 ready-to-wear and accessories campaigns and new store openings. As far as the autumn/winter 2016-2017 campaigns go, the tease is definitely on. We certainly haven’t covered all of it but happily the AFP has compiled a report on nine significant ones, in the eyes of the wire service at least.

Here then is a look at the most striking campaigns in store for the autumn/winter 2016 season.

All the hottest models of the moment have been signed up to front campaigns for big-name fashion brands this season, showcasing ready-to-wear clothing collections or various lines of accessories and footwear for autumn/winter 2016-2017.

Famous Faces

It is no surprise to see the Hadid sisters – currently among of the most in-demand models in the world – take center stage in several campaigns for autumn/winter 2016. Gigi Hadid fronts three major campaigns, for Versace, alongside Karlie Kloss, Stuart Weitzman and Max Mara accessories. Bella Hadid stars in a Givenchy campaign with a whole line-up of top models, including Irina Shayk, Lily Aldridge and Mariacarla Boscono.

The other star model of the moment – Kendall Jenner – is also among the famous faces signed up for autumn/winter ads. She can be seen as never before, totally transformed in a campaign for Marc Jacobs. The designer has also enlisted Cara Delevingne, Julia Nobis, Susan Sarandon, Courtney Love and Marilyn Manson.

Australian model Julia Nobis is the star of the Dior AW16-17 campaign, stepping into the role of a modern and stylish woman on the go, photographed in movement by Steven Meisel.

Other flagship ads see Anna Ewers fronting the Miu Miu campaign and Moschino sign up Anna Cleveland, Stella Tenant, Anja Rubik and Raquel Zimmermann in a campaign from Steven Meisel. Anthony Vaccarello picked the stunning Eva Herzigova as the face of his eponymous label.

Standout Campaigns

Two campaigns stand out in particular this season, for two very different reasons. First of all, Saint Laurent has unveiled its first campaign under the creative direction of Anthony Vaccarello, giving followers a taste of what’s to come from the French fashion house. With a less rock’n’roll vibe, the black and white shots have a pared down, minimalist feel, and show the new logo against a white background. The campaign is shot by Collier Schorr.

The second standout is the autumn/winter 2016 campaign from footwear label Jimmy Choo, also celebrating the brand’s 20th anniversary. Jimmy Choo is marking the milestone with Amber Valletta, Milla Jovovich, Sasha Pivovarova, Taylor Hill, Lexi Boling, Jasmine Tookes and Xiao Wen Ju, all starring in individual campaign photos shot by Craig McDean.

Milla Jovovich Jimmy Choo FW16 Campaign

Move aside, the Jimmy Choo army. Marking 20 grand years this FW16, the British label moves away from its usual preference for a model gang, and opts instead to focus on the personalities of seven ladies. (This earns our nod of approval, for models aren’t just pretty faces.) Shot by Craig McDean, key pieces of the FW16 collection were underlined with an air of innate confidence and effortless glamour – just like the quintessential Jimmy Choo woman.

jimmy-choo-20-years-1

The campaign stars Amber Valletta, Milla Jovovich, Sasha Pivovarova, Taylor Hill, Lexi Boling, Jasmine Tookes and Xiao Wen Ju, who lent their charm (and their feet) to this season’s iconic designs. We’re talking about the “Maloy” boots, “Trick” sandals, “Romy” stiletto pumps, “Mari” sandals and “Monroe” boots. Shot against a minimalist purple-toned background, Craig McDean seeks to augment and focus on the charisma of the stars.

jimmy-choo-20-years-2

“The Autumn Winter campaign is a reflection of the characters who embody the Jimmy Choo brand values both during the past 20 years and into the future. It is a modern vision for our woman and signals a bold new chapter,” stated Sandra Choi, Creative Director of Jimmy Choo. It’s a step in the right direction to shoe in another grand decade, in our opinion.

Shred Like A Gentleman – Jimmy Choo Shoes SS16

Fashion shows typically follow a fixed blueprint, with little variation to the action. With the exception of Chanel, whose consistently innovative set design wows each season (how can one not be impressed by a Chanel airport or casino?), it’s usually tall, thin models moodily walking to some obscure soundtrack in an industrial-slash-ultra-modern space for a good 12 minutes before the designer takes a bow. I’d hazard a guess that no fashion show has ever gone the route of presenting an entire street sports club, complete with skating ramps, BMX riders and skateboarders flipping ollies in designer threads. Until the Jimmy Choo’s presentation for their Spring/Summer 2016 mens collection, that is.

Modelled as a rule-breakers’ rendition of the British gentleman’s sporting club, the Jimmy Choo skatepark even boasts a pompous Latin motto that loosely translates to a modern day #yolo, “Vive Sicut Audes”. During the preview, bigshot street stunt masters and athletes like James Hewett, Zac Miller, Jak Tonge and more put the latest Jimmy Choo collection and themselves to the test as onlookers were awed. Designer Sandra Choi explains the reason behind her youthful inspiration – “These sports are all about seeing the urban environment in a new way, with a creative disrespect, and then using it as a crucible for adrenalin and originality. We are very excited to see the collection put to the test by these radical athletes.”

Latest shoe offerings play on extremely bright pops of colour, alongside ugly-chic design motifs like stonewashed denim and pinstripe. Styles play on a marriage between old and new schools, sports and formality, by working around odd combinations of materials. Scuba shoes and miltirary boots combine in the Ezra’s form, while brouged uppers perch atop vulcanized rubber soles in the Ross and Reggy for a neat medley of uptown and downtown. Even familiar Jimmy Choo classics get a street-style remake, and some of them veer towards punk, like the Argyle high-top sneaker that features a cool mesh upper.

Jimmy Choo makes it trendy to be caught in limbo this season, and our feet are bolder for it.

6 Designer Sunglasses for Spring/Summer 2016

With the summer sun upon us, intense light is a further burden to those of us already braving the heat. Spring/Summer 2016 eyewear collections have elegant and innovative designer shades on offer, allowing one to stay fashionable and comfortable, without having to squint all day long.

Offering up a big dollop of high-glitz glamor, Jimmy Choo’s Vivy shades feature round nude colored or gloss black acetate frames with Swarovski crystals as decoration. As an added plus, the jewels are fully detachable, allowing you to adapt your style for any scenario.

With the geek chic aesthetic brought back into vogue by the likes of brands like Gucci, Tom Ford has decided to tap into that with the Greta model. These shades sport thick geometric frames in retro inspired colors such as ‘transparent pink’ and ‘honey/brown’.

Fendi takes a leap into the future with its Eye Shine collection, yet still holding within it a bit of the retro vibe. Ingeniously featuring a ‘frame within a frame’, these round glasses have a 1970s color scheme of golden yellows and turquoise blues, but have a cat’s-eye silhouette.

On the other side of the spectrum, Moncler went all the way back to the 1950s with a stylized range of butterfly shaped lenses in pastel colors like taupes, corals, and mint greens. All perfect for a laid back feminine vibe.

The ultra-modern Chanel went for style blended with technology by having a flat-mirrored eye-mask/visor like design engraved with laser padding. This Plein Soleil 2016 line uses colors subtly based on acetate to allow for slipping back and forth from black to blue on a solar cat’s eye, or from black to white on an oval optic.

Finally, we take a look at Cartier. Popularly known as aviators, the Panthére de Cartier features the Maison’s emblematic panther making an unexpected appearance in the lens. The three-dimensional jeweled panther is completed in gold or platinum with black lacquer, much like most of the eyewear. Choose between a golden flash or graduated grey lenses with silver toned reflections for a sleek and polished look under the sun.

6 Heels Towering Over the Competition

This playful spread from our friends at L’Officiel Singapore caught our eye and we had to bring it to a wider audience. Having all these cool toys in the office (the actual toys, not the shoes) was as inspiring as these heels are high or quirky. Well, height alone maketh not any of these shoes. Instead, shape and structure play vital roles in defining the appeal here. Now, bask in the glory of footwear that should totally feature in a Lego movie!

That’s why I decided to lay down a fizzy start and floral heart on a unique honey-amber structure. Built around sensuality and addiction, it offers radiance and timeless elegance.’

 Berkeley Hotel Pret-a-Portea collection

The Berkeley Hotel London has teamed up with Jimmy Choo to offer an English tea service inspired by the shoe designer.

To create the Choo collection, pastry chefs pored over the brand’s iconic shoes and accessories in the kitchens of the Knightsbridge hotel, examining the materials, embellishments, prints and patterns of the latest catwalk designs.

Guests of the hotel’s Pret-a-Portea Jimmy Choo Collection can expect to nibble daintily on cakes and pastries shaped like the brand’s classic ‘Anouk’ shoe, a pointy-toe pump that comes in a rainbow of colors.

Attendees of London Fashion Week in September, meanwhile, can also partake in the hotel’s regular Pret-a-Portea, which is served during the afternoon daily in The Caramel Room.

Cakes, pastries, and cookies are given a runway makeover, inspired by the designs of luxury brands like Christian Louboutin, Miu Miu, DSquared, Victoria Beckham and Oscar de la Renta.

Louboutin’s Pigalle, the brand’s classic patent pump, for instance, has been turned into an edible cookie with turquoise icing and its signature red sole, while chefs paid homage to Miu Miu by replicating the brand’s exotic skin tote bag with chocolate pecan moelleux.

The Pret-a-Portea Jimmy Choo Collection service runs October 13 – 19. Both services are £41. Upgrade to a glass of champagne for £51 to £57.

Nicole Kidman Goes Pantsless For Jimmy Choo

Jimmy Choo Pre fall 2014 Campaign

Nicole Kidman looks at least 20 years younger in the new Pre-Autumn/Winter campaign from Jimmy Choo. Scantily clad, Nicole Kidman barely looks like herself in the images, which seem to have been heavily edited.

After transforming into a redhead in a campaign shot by Mikael Jansson and showing her sensual side for photographer Sølve Sundsbø, the actress is hardly recognizable in these images taken by Willy Vanderperre. The first photo, in particular, suggests more than a few digital touch-ups.

Nonetheless, Kidman looks glamorous and rebellious, wearing a white blazer with black and silver boots, in line with the rock ‘n’ roll aesthetic of the Jimmy Choo pre-fall collection.

Jimmy Choo also unveiled a teaser (below) for the new video campaign, in which the actress looks much more natural.

The Mandarin bar at the Mandarin Oriental hotel in Munich is offering an afternoon tea menu created in partnership with luxury shoe and accessory brand Jimmy Choo.

The menu includes a pastry inspired by the famous brand’s “Sundays” pumps and a chocolate treat shaped like the “Charlize” handbag, in addition to chocolate-raspberry macarons and small glasses of gourmet creations with grapefruit, lemon and caviar.

This assortment of treats is served with your choice of tea (€39) or a glass of champagne (€55). All guests will receive a complimentary gift set from Jimmy Choo: Jimmy Choo flash fragrant surprise.

This is not the first time Jimmy Choo has collaborated with the hotel group. Last April, the Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong served up a variety of pastries inspired by the designer’s Spring 2013 collection.

The hotel even offered a package including a one-night stay, afternoon tea and a pair of shoes.

“I really enjoyed working with Sølve,” said Nicole, “he is very creative but he is decisive and methodical in his direction. It was fun to shoot new and surprising perspectives, it felt a little bit daring, dangerous. I loved the minimal styling and how the shoes and bags became like a sensual second skin to me”.

Jimmy Choo Cruise 2014 with Nicole Kidman

Nicole Kidman has appeared in a new campaign for Cruise 2014 and divulges some behind-the-scenes confessions in a video.

“I have been known to be the party girl of all party girls. I’m proud of being able to go I’m up for anything and if that means diving into the ocean at midnight naked, I’ll do it,” reveals Nicole Kidman in a new behind-the-scenes video for Jimmy Choo.

The 46-year-old actress was styled with a Brigitte Bardot-style back-combed hairdo for the brand’s new Cruise 2014 campaign. “To draw from someone like Bardot is fabulous,” explains Kidman in the clip: “she was a very strong cinematic presence, but I think she was also a world presence in terms of setting a style, in the same way that Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly and all these people set their styles.”

She also elaborates on her own relationship with shoes: “I love ankle straps; there’s something about wearing ankle straps that makes you feel feminine. They feel girly which is kind of nice.” According to the actress it’s “the luxury, femininity and the attention to detail” that gets ladies’ hearts racing when it comes to footwear.

The collection is available to pre-order now via the Jimmy Choo site with the ‘Lottie’ black sandals worn in the adverts selling for €495 and the ‘Anna’ metallic bag available for €1050.
