
Businessweek reports that Russian billionaire Vladimir Potanin plans to leave almost all of his $2.1 billion fortune to charity within the next decade.
The billionaire says he won’t deprive his three children of material support and will appropriate money for their plans, as well as for unforeseen circumstances.
An article in The Financial Times says that Potanin was inspired by Bill Gates and Warren Buffett and has a long history of philanthropy.

A set of cufflinks featuring an 18-c gold finish has been made using parts from Prince Charles’s Aston Martin to raise money for charity.
Pistons removed from the car when the prince decided to convert the vehicle to make it more eco-friendly have been transformed into cufflinks.
A total of 200 cufflinks were made by TMB ArtMetal, and they were designed to resemble the DB6 and the car’s iconic wheel ‘spinners’.

Scarlett Johansson has designed a solidarity handbag for the Spanish retailer Mango to help raise funds for the victims of the Haiti earthquake.
The bag design depicts an early cartographical representation of Haiti, and the words “supporting the people of Haiti, designed by Scarlett Johansson.”
The Haiti handbag will be exclusively available at over 1,390 Mango stores around the world from March 2010, retailing for $29.90.

On December 08, 2009 Marie Christiane Marek hosted “The Designers’ Christmas Trees” at the Cite de l’architecture et du patrimoine in Paris.
World-famous designers have sold 20 Christmas trees for a total of 41,500€ to be donated to The Foundation headed by France’s First Lady Carla Bruni-Sarkozy.
Since 1996 several famous names have taken part, including Stella McCartney, Jean Paul Gaultier and Marc Jacobs.


The watch brand Hublot is creating 12 “Big Bang” watches with musical group Depeche Mode.
Hublot is teaming up with Depeche mode as part of a charity concept to benefit the Teenage Cancer Trust that will take place on February 17, 2010 at the Royal Albert Hall in London.
Each of the Hublot watches will feature one of the band’s albums on its dial, and the timepieces will be auctioned off as of Feb. 1, 2010, via Hublot.ch.
