Superyacht Dunia Baru delivers Earthquake Relief to Lombok

The 51m Superyacht Dunia Baru set sail for Lombok, Indonesia to deliver critical supplies to the people affected on the island. It was heaven sent!

Oct 04, 2018 | By Joe Lim

On 23 August 2018, a 51m Superyacht Dunia Baru set sail for Lombok, Indonesia
to assist with providing vital supplies to the people of the island, where a series of
powerful earthquakes over the past few weeks have left nearly 500 people dead and
hundreds, if not thousands, of homes and buildings severely damaged.

Laying out supplies on Dunia Baru

For two days, Dunia Baru’s owner Mark Robba along with family and friends from
Indo Yachts, 37 South Yachts and Black Tomato worked with Military Police to
deliver thousands of dollars worth of supplies based out of Medana Bay Marina,
north of the Lombok’s capital Mataran.

More supplies delivered via trucks to the pier

“The amount of devastation exceeded my expectations,” says Robba, who describes
seeing flattened homes, roads made nearly impassable due to debris and countless
displaced families across northeast Lombok, where rural towns off of the main roads
had yet to receive much help.

The aftermath of Lombok earthquake

Thanks to generous donations from charter clients, colleagues and friends across
the globe, the Dunia Baru team were able to bring much needed provisions including
blankets, tarps, rice, gloves, a generator, gasoline, diesel fuel, fresh water, instant
noodles, baby formula, instant milk and diapers. Dunia Baru’s 18-strong crew also
prepared and served 500 hot, fresh meals to locals over the two days.

On the first day the team delivered four large truckloads of supplies to different
villages. On the second day three trucks were loaded with as many supplies as
possible and stops were made along the roads to distribute items. One carload was
also loaded to send to east Lombok, which has also been affected.

Loading up on supplies

“The really amazing thing is how many people are still smiling despite their suffering – and the people of Lombok have truly suffered. Compared to their needs, our contribution is so small, but everyone has been so appreciative of the assistance we’ve given them.”

Bringing cheer to locals

Dunia Baru is a 51m Phinisi-style superyacht, which can accommodate up to 14 guests in one master cabin and six spacious and well-appointed guest suites.
