Swiss hotel chain Swissotel chain is to offer fitness equipment in guest rooms in its hotels around the world.

The chain announced March 12 that as part of its new ‘Vitality’ program being rolled out this year, guests will have the opportunity to order gym equipment to be set up in their rooms, complete with instructions.

Equipment options for healthy travelers include a Swiss ball, Aero Step, yoga mats, Thera-Bands, or Pilates rings, Swissotel said.

A program of outdoors activities including guided walks or jogging tours will also be offered, along with new games evenings featuring Chess contests, Scrabble, Monopoly and backgammon to encourage ‘mental fitness’.

Far from being just a cramped exercise room, hotel fitness is becoming increasingly sophisticated, with plenty of new offers from the major chains aiming to entice guests to stay healthy on the road.

Check in at a Westin property and you’ll be offered a loan of sportswear and shoes courtesy of New Balance, while Fairmont provides the same thing through Adidas.

Last month, InterContinental underlined its commitment to healthy guests by launching a whole new chain aimed at fitness fanatic travellers, promising — among other things — in-room coat racks which double as pull-up bars.
