You’re Invited to See Ralph Lauren in 4D

In honor of the tenth anniversary of its US e-commerce site and to toast the recent launch of its UK version, Ralph Lauren is staging one-of-a-kind public 4D fashion spectacles tonight (November 10) at its new Madison Avenue location in New York and its Bond Street flagship in London.

The sensory experience will involve ambient sound and even a mist of Ralph Lauren fragrance as the facade of its two flagships light up with projected images of giant models and polo players towering over the crowds at four stories tall.

The public art shows will illuminate the evening sky and give audiences the impression that the virtual models are gliding towards them.

2012 Mercedes-Benz CLS Shooting Brake

Mercedes-Benz has confirmed that its Concept Shooting Break, unveiled at the Auto China Show earlier this year, will go into production.

The luxury manufacturer said November 8 that the CLS Shooting Brake, a sporty four-door model with distinctive sloping tail, will be available in 2012.

It will be the latest in the CLS series, which is heralded by Mercedes-Benz as a pioneering model that preceded similar ideas from other manufacturers such as the Jaguar XJ and VW Passat CC.

Burberry Ipad Cases

The latest designer brand to jump into the iPad case/cover craze is Burberry, with the launch of their new cases in buffalo leather.

The case is designed to protect the Ipad and provide a stand when the device is in use. The interior is a snuggly leather and even has a flap for holding papers.

The Burberry Grainy Leather iPad cover retails for $450. They have got it bright Military Red and in Chocolate brown.

Ermenegildo Zegna to Launch E-Commerce

Italian menswear company Ermenegildo Zegna is launching its first e-commerce site on December 9.

The new online boutique will be operated by Yoox and will carry the brand’s main line as well as the younger, more casual Zegna Sport line.

The Z Zegna line is currently the only one available for retail online, but it is sold via Thecorner.com — a virtual mall also operated by Yoox.

Dior Homme Leather iPad Case

Since iPads are taking the world by storm, many designers have hopped on the bandwagon to create covers such as the Dior Homme iPad case.

The case comes in book format and will be available in two material options – black tie leather or classic coated canvas. One side of the case is a notepad, the other one holds the iPad.

Priced around US $895, the case will be available soon in select Dior Homme boutiques and has been designed to fit Apple’s iPad perfectly.

Bang & Olufsen BeoVision 10 32-inch HDTV

Bang & Olufsen just announced it has added a new, smaller model to its BeoVision 10 lineup with a 32-inch version.

The third in the series introduced this year sports the same edge LED-backlight, DVB-HD over-the-air TV tuning and two built-in speakers that are said to offer superior sound quality.

Said to be the slimmest TV the company has ever made, the edge-lit LCD design is less than 7cm deep complete with its wall-bracket.

Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II Joins Facebook

They are already regular users of Twitter and YouTube — but now Britain’s royal family is setting up its own page on Internet social networking site Facebook.

The British Monarchy page features pictures, videos, news and speeches from Queen Elizabeth II and heir to the throne Prince Charles, plus his two sons Princes William and Harry, among others.

The Queen’s first day on Facebook Monday attracted the attention of more than 100,000 users of the social networking site as royalists, republicans, jokers and sentimental admirers rushed to comment on the British Monarchy page. Continue reading

World Travel awards announces Global Winners

London has been voted the “World’s Leading Destination” at this year’s World Travel Awards, which took place November 7.

It beat off fierce competition from New York, Cape Town and Sydney to take the award, which is seen as one of the most prestigious in the travel world.

The World’s Leading Hotel gong went to the Burj Al Arab in Dubai, despite rivalry from 26 other properties including the Armani Hotel in Dubai, the Hotel Ritz Paris and the Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi.

The world’s best frequent traveler programs

Marriott Rewards

The hotel loyalty program Marriott Rewards, which counts 33 million members, has swept an awards event honoring the world’s best frequent traveler schemes.

It won the best hotel Program of the Year in both the Americas and in Europe, as well as a further nine awards, the most of any brand at the Frequent Traveler Awards presented November 4.

Gongs for the program included Best Redemption Promotion, Best Earning Promotion and Best Redemption Ability in the hotel category across the Americas, Europe and Africa, and Middle East and Oceania.

A look inside Ferrari World, Abu Dhabi

Ferrari World, the world’s largest indoor theme park and the first with a Ferrari theme, opened on Thursday in the Gulf emirate of Abu Dhabi.

The theme park, located near the emirate’s Yas Marina racing circuit, is spread over 86,000 square metres (925,696 square feet).

Its massive red roof covers 200,000 square metres (2.15 million square feet), and features the world’s largest Ferrari prancing horse shield.

$49 million Matisse sets new record

A large bronze sculpture of a woman’s back by Henri Matisse sold Wednesday for nearly 49 million dollars, setting a new record for the French impressionist.

Measuring 74.5 inches (189.2 cm), “Nu de dos” was the star of the auction at Christie’s in New York.

It went under the hammer just a day after rival Sotheby’s auctioned an Amedeo Modigliani painting for a record 69 million dollars.

“Nu de dos, 4 etat (Back IV),” had been estimated to sell for between 25 and 35 million dollars, before a bidding war sent the price spiraling to 48,802,500 dollars.

Saddam Hussein’s Yacht Back in Iraq, For Sale

The superyacht that once belonged to Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein is on the market again following a failed attempt to sell it for $30 million in 2008.

The boat is back in Iraqi waters after the country won a legal battle with Jordan over its ownership last year. It has since been to Greece to undergo renovations.

The 82m (270ft) Ocean Breeze is equipped with swimming pools, an operating theatre, a helipad and an escape tunnel leading to a submarine.

New Record for a Modigliani at Sotheby’s

A painting of a nude by Amedeo Modigliani fetched nearly 69 million dollars at a Sotheby’s auction in New York, setting a new record for the Italian painter.

The circa 1917 canvas, titled “Nu assis sur un divan (La Belle Romaine),” had been estimated before the auction to go for more than 40 million dollars.

Five bidders on Tuesday competed over what Sotheby’s called the “iconic” and “stunning nude,” driving the final price to 68,962,500 dollars.

The massive sale highlighted the first of the autumn art auctions in New York at Sotheby’s and rival Christie’s, with both houses predicting a surge in demand.
