The Chatwal New York Makes A Grand Entrance

American-Indian entrepreneur Sant Singh Chatwal has opened the first hotel in a new chain of luxury properties he hopes will become a global brand.

The Chatwal New York opened August 8 in a landmark 1905 building designed by Stanford White in New York City and is the only member of the Leading Hotels of the World in the Manhattan theater district.

The new property has been designed by Thierry Despont to offer “contemporary luxuries and ultra-modern technology” in a 1930s Deco design environment.

Tod’s iPad Cases

Italian luxury goods firm Tod’s is offering world’s most expensive iPad case, according to Luxist.

They are releasing four different versions of the case, one in supple calf skin and three more in exotic croc.

The luxurious case, finished in genuine alligator, is priced at $4,900 and the version in buff colored calfskin is priced at $495.

The luxury iPad case is handmade in Italy and will be available in brown, blue and tan from Tod’s boutiques worldwide beginning in November.

Largest Picasso painting exhibited in London

Pablo Picasso‘s largest-ever painting, a 10.4 metre-by-11.7 metre cloth used in a performance of the Ballets Russes in 1924, went on exhibition for the first time in London on Thursday.

The canvas, designed and signed by Picasso but finished by seven other artists, was used in a performance of the one-act ballet “Le train bleu” (The Blue Train) by Bronislava Nijinska.

The piece, which is to be a star exhibition in a show at the V&A Museum dedicated to the Russian ballet company, was bought by the museum in 1968 but never previously exhibited.

McLaren has confirmed its flagship London dealership will be based at One Hyde Park in Knightsbridge.

Strategically located between Harvey Nichols and Harrods, the landmark development is due to be completed at the end of the year.

Jardine Motors Group, McLaren Automotive’s London dealer, has secured the largest ground floor retail unit for a high-profile showroom.

Madonna on Roman Abramovich’s yacht

Madonna has borrowed Roman Abramovich’s brand new yacht “Luna” while filming W.E., the new Duke of WIndsor movie she’s directing in the South of France.

The luxurious yacht provides convenient accommodation for Madonna as she films the movie’s beach scenes, London’s Daily Mail reports.

With a swimming pool, sunbathing deck, gaming area and two helipads, the 115 metre boat is the largest expedition yacht in the world.

The duo are on a promotion roll lately, with their CNN Revealed portrait having been released just two weeks ago.

Not much is known about Quando Quando Quando: the movie will be released on September 7, but it’s unclear what shape it is going to take.

Lehman Brothers Art Work Under the Hammer

Artwork from the European branches of the collapsed US investment bank Lehman Brothers will go under the hammer in London next month in a two-million-pound auction, administrators said Sunday.

Works by Lucian Freud and Gary Hume will figure at the sale at Christie’s auction house on September 29, which comes two years after the bank’s demise.

“We think that there are many people around the world who would like to acquire some art with a Lehman connection,” said administrators PricewaterhouseCoopers.

“Shipwrecked champagne good, but not ours”

A two-century-old bottle of champagne found in a shipwreck at the bottom of the Baltic tastes great but is not from the house of Veuve-Clicquot.

Last month Swedish divers working off Finland found 30 bottles perfectly preserved at a depth of 55 metres (180 feet), perhaps part of a consignment sent by France’s King Louis XVI to the Russian Imperial Court.

Because the corks still retained a trace of an anchor logo, experts thought the champagne might have come from the historic Veuve-Clicquot estate.

Lonely Planet’s iPad Guides Released

Lonely Planet, the world’s largest travel publisher, has ported its full color Discover series to the iPad, it announced August 3.

The books are now available on the Apple iBookstore, with Lonely Planet saying that the series “takes the ebook to a new level.”

Using the iPad’s touch-screen functionality, users can navigate between reviews and points of interest on a map, bookmarking key sights and taking notes using the iBooks application.

NYC hotel to introduce Porsche fleet for guests

Guests at New York’s Gansevoort Hotels will soon be able to enjoy the city from the back of a Porsche, thanks to an agreement between the hotel and the luxury car maker.

Both of Gansevoort’s New York properties — The Gansevoort Hotel and The Gansevoort Park Avenue South — are to offer free in-town car service and airport transfers in a fleet of Porsche vehicles.

From August 15,the trendy NYC hotels will squire you around town in the roomy 2011 Porsche Panamera 4S.

Hollywood’s Highest-Paid Actresses

Hollywood actress Sandra Bullock has topped Forbes magazine’s highest-paid actress list, according to reports.

The Oscar-winning actress earned $56 million over the past year after starring in and producing a series of blockbuster films.

The 46-year-old won an Oscar for The Blind Side, which made nearly $310 million at global box offices on a budget of around $30 million.

Cartier Sues HauteLook.com For $2 Million

Cartier has sued the online retailer HauteLook, accusing it of damaging the luxury goods maker’s brand by selling damaged and second-hand Cartier merchandise.

HauteLook is “causing immediate and irreparable harm to the Cartier brand and trademark,” Cartier said in its 36-page complaint filed on Tuesday evening in Manhattan federal court.

Cartier claimed that HauteLook has sold used Cartier watches despite maintaining on its website that it “never” sells “secondhand merchandise, ever.”

Megan Fox Signs With Giorgio Armani Cosmetics

Transformers star Megan Fox has been announced as the new face of Giorgio Armani cosmetics.

The 24-year-old actress will front the new ad campaign for Armani cosmetics, when it debuts in October.

“Mr. Armani is an iconic visionary for all things fashion,” Megan told WWD. “I’m honored to be associated with him and part of this campaign.”

Megan “embodies the spirit of the women of today: free, confident and seductive. Her beautiful features reveal femininity, sensuality and strength,” Giorgio says of his new spokeswoman.

Fox already stars in ads for Emporio Armani Underwear and Armani Jeans.

London’s Black Cab – the world’s best taxi

London‘s Black Cabs have come out top in a quality survey of taxi services in the world’s biggest cities.

Fifty-six percent of travelers surveyed by Hotels.com said that London’s cabs offer the best service, followed by New York and Tokyo.

Taxis in Berlin came in fourth place, whille Bangkok’s Tuk Tuks came fifth, jumping from seventh place in last year’s survey.
