Yves Saint Laurent Fall 2010 Campaign

Yet another Fall 2010 advertising campaign has emerged, this one from French fashion house Yves Saint Laurent and starring supermodel Daria Werbowy.

The newads were shot by husband-and-wife team Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, while YSL designer Stefano Pilati played creative director.

Werbowy was shot on the spiraling staircase inside the Hôtel de Clermont-Tonnerre, which is the Paris headquarters of Artemis, the holding company for Yves Saint Laurent parent PPR.

Dita Von Teese strips for Gaultier

Dita Von Teese has taken her famous burlesque act to the couture capital, Paris.

During Jean Paul Gaultier’s Autumn/Winter 2010 collection show, Ms Von Teese appeared on the catwalk in a black slinky dress.

The famous actress then walked down the catwalk and stripped off her robe revealing a black skeleton-looking bodice. Then came the models.

Boeing to debut 787 Dreamliner at Farnborough

Members of the public will be able to see the new Boeing 787 Dreamliner for the first time at next week’s Farnborough Air Show, the firm has announced.

The new Dreamliner, set to go into service later this year, will be presented alongside its rival Airbus’s A380 superjumbo at the show, which runs July 19 – 25.

It will be the official debut of the Boeing 787 with scheduled tours offered by Boeing to trade visitors on July 19 and 20.

Toy store Hamleys, which is celebrating its 250th anniversary this year, hosted an event to showcase their predictions for this Christmas’ must-have toys.

And this year, Hamleys is offering a small-scale Mercedes Benz SLS AMG festooned with Crystallized Swarovski Elements. Price: £1,500 ($2,250).

Luxury hotel brand plans Asian revitalization

After a tumultuous few years, Regent Hotels and Resorts is looking to return to its roots, the company has announced, opening more properties in Asia.

The brand was the first to introduce concepts such as the five-fixture bathroom, hotel shopping malls and villa resorts which have now become standard in luxury hotels.

The brand is now looking to revive its glory days since being purchased by Formosa International Hotels from Carlson, which owns Radisson and Park Plaza.

New Banyan Tree resort set for Koh Samui

Global hotel chain Banyan Tree is preparing to open its new beach resort in Koh Samui, which is a location known for it’s golden beaches and beautiful sceneries.

This will mark the third destination for Banyan Tree Hotels and Resorts in Thailand since its flagship resort, Banyan Tree Phuket, opened in 1994.

Scheduled to open on July 15, Banyan Tree Samui is located on a tropical island rising from the shimmering Gulf of Thailand.

After launching the Mahatma Gandhi limited special theme edition pens, Montblanc has launched Elizabeth I Limited Edition 4810 and 888.

This is part of Montblanc’s Patron of Art Edition honouring a legendary benefactor of the arts and culture since this writing instrument line was conceived in 1992.

Mercedes have passed Audi in global sales

Mercedes-Benz has passed Audi to become the second-best selling premium car brand for the first half of 2010, according to reports released in the last week.

Mercedes posted a 13 percent rise in global sales for the month of June, enough to push it past Audi’s year to date sales, despite Audi having held the second spot in global sales by a whisker for the first five months of the year.

Both automakers trail fellow German marque BMW, which sold 585,755 units in the first half of 2010 according to Automotive News.

Turner painting sells for record 29.7 million pounds

A view over Rome painted by artist JMW Turner was sold for 29.7 million pounds in London, setting a new record at auction for the British master.

“Modern Rome — Campo Vaccino” was bought Wednesday for the equivalent of 44.9 million dollars at Sotheby’s by the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles.

The previous auction record for a Turner work was 20.5 million pounds, which was set by “Giudecca, La Donne della Salute and San Giorgio” in April 2006.

Italy – Thousands of euro coins spill on motorway

Motorists in southern Italy must have thought they had hit the jackpot after spotting piles of euro coins on a motorway.

A security lorry carrying some two million euros $2.5m) in one and two-euro coins overturned near Foggia.

The accident dislodged the boxes on board which burst open as they hit the ground, paving a vast stretch of the road with “gold”.

Before the police arrived, some drivers stopped their cars and made off with at least 10,000 euros.

Princess Diana’s family sells Rubens painting

Princess Diana’s family has sold an important Old Master painting by Peter Paul Rubens for nine million pounds at auction.

“A Commander Being Armed For Battle”, which is thought to depict the 16th-century Holy Roman Emperor, Charles V, was sold to an anonymous bidder at Christie’s auction house in London on Tuesday.

The painting, completed between 1612-1614, used to hang in Althorp which is the ancestral seat of Diana’s family and the late princess’s childhood home.

Hermes Timepieces 2010 Ad Campaign

Hermes has unveiled its latest advertising campaign showcasing its watches against a series of equestrian-themed images.

The set of advertisements depict horses in a variety of dramatic scenes and odd locations, running alongside images of the watchmakers newest models.

The pictures were taken by Tim Flach, and each image is separated by the brand’s ribbon, which reads: Hermes Sellier – Hermes Horologer.

The girls from the pearl at Chanel

A monumental lion, teeth bared and one front paw resting proprietorially on a giant pearl, held centre stage, its golden coat caught in the setting sun under the glass dome of the Grand Palais.

Karl Lagerfeld is a past master at dreaming up attention-grabbing scenarios for his Chanel shows, and Tuesday night’s was no exception.

It looked like an allusion to Jean Cocteau’s Surreal masterpiece “Beauty and the Beast” when the traditional bride at the end was accompanied by a groom wearing a lion’s head over his wedding suit.

However Lagerfeld told AFP it had been inspired by a small bronze lion found in Coco Chanel’s apartment.

Beijing Airport overtakes Heathrow as second-largest

Beijing International Airport has overtaken London Heathrow as the world’s second busiest, in a sign of China’s growing dominance of international travel.

In terms of seat capacity, Beijing International is now second only to Atlanta Hartsfield in the US, according to a July 6 report by aviation analyst OAG.

Beijing’s business has been boosted by a sharp growth in the number of passenger seats to Asia, a growth of nine percent which equates to some 15.3 million more seats flying to or from the region.
