Ralph Lauren Launches Big Pony Fragrance Collection

Ralph Lauren has launched a new line of men’s fragrances dubbed the Big Pony collection.

The collection takes inspiration from the designer’s Big Pony shirts embroidered with an oversize version of Ralph Lauren’s signature polo-player logo.

The collection of four fragrances – labeled one to four – represent four key passions: Sport, Seduction, Adventure and Style.

Manchester United is most valuable sports team

English Premiership giant Manchester United is the most valuable franchise in sports, according to a study compiled by Forbes Magazine.

Forbes released its list of the world’s most valuable teams Wednesday, with Manchester on top at 1.84 billion dollars.

The second highest and top North American franchise is the National Football League’s Dallas Cowboys at 1.65 billion dollars.

Tycoons spend $2.6m on champagne in St Tropez

In what could be called as a lavish fight, a pair of rival billionaires set a new world record at a French nightclub to see who could order the most champagne.

Zhen Low – the younger brother of big-spending Malaysian billionaire Jho Low – squared off against Winston Fisher of the prominent New York real-estate family Thursday night at Les Caves du Roy nightclub in St. Tropez.

The bill? A staggering 2 million euros, or $2.6 million, according to an announcement made at the club.

Harrods in talks to open Shanghai store

Luxury department store, Harrods is currently negotiating the possibility of launching its first branch outside the UK in Shanghai’s Bund area.

However, if the talks resulted in a partnership with Shanghai’s municipal government, it would take around two-and-a-half years to finalize the project.

“China is the most probable [option for a foreign branch], but we would have to do a lot of work first”, Harrods managing director, Michael Ward said.

Yann Kersale designs the Jallum lamp for Baccarat

French crystal makers Baccarat has released its latest design in collaboration with renowned Parisian lighting artist Yann Kersalé.

The Jallum lamp is made of French cut crystal, aluminum and can be recognized in the form of a glass baton with LEDs inside it.

There are four cylinders arranged on a charger cradle and can be placed individually or in groups to light up your space.

Beluga caviar back on table

Reputedly the finest form of caviar, beluga, is back on the table this year, after five key source countries agreed on export quotas for the delicacy.

Trade in beluga caviar was halted last year as countries failed to agree on quotas, in line with a 2002 CITES agreement.

But during a meeting in Tehran, Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Russia and Turkmenistan agreed on the latest quotas which would run until February 28, 2011.

The new beluga quotas are: zero for Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan, 800 kg for Iran, 1,500 kg for Kazakhstan and 700 kg for Russia.

World’s strongest beer served in a dead squirrel

Brewing company BrewDog has created the world’s strongest, and possibly most expensive, beer sold in taxidermied stoats.

The BBC reported on July 22 that Scottish Brewers, Brewdog, have broken the record for the world’s strongest beer, with their new beverage, known as ‘The End of History,’ which weighs in at 55% ABV.

However, the record-breaking super-strength beer also comes served in dead squirrels or stoats.

Sotheby’s to auction Wallis Simpson’s jewels

Sotheby’s says it is auctioning about 3 million pounds worth of jewelry once owned by Wallis Simpson, the American socialite who became Duchess of Windsor.

Britain’s King Edward VIII, who renounced his claim to the British throne in 1936 to marry the divorcee, showered her with gifts of jewellery throughout their courtship and marriage.

The pieces on sale include a Cartier heart-shaped emerald, ruby and diamond brooch (above) commissioned in 1957 to mark their 20th wedding anniversary.

The world’s duty free shopping hotspots

Dubai’s duty free shops remain the busiest duty free outlets in the world, according to figures released this week by the Dubai Duty Free and Generation Research.

Consumers spent a staggering $1.14 billion at Dubai’s duty free outlets in 200, over 5 percent of money spent at airports around the world.

Dubai’s sales put it ahead of London Heathrow and Seoul Incheon, the world’s second and third largest duty free markets respectively, which both suffered a fall in demand between 2008 and 2009.

Portable watermelon cooler

In Japan, watermelons have become a luxury food that apparently now requires a carry-on luggage-like cooler/warmer, a world’s first.

First came the square watermelon creation that was introduced to the global market with the hefty price tag of $75 (€56.41) for 6.8kg. In Japan the same square watermelon can cost ¥10,000 yen (€90).

The Japanese site Joybond.co.jp sells the single round watermelon on-the-go cooling or warming device for Â¥19,950 (€179) referred to as “まるごと たまちゃん”.

Peter Jackson purchases a private jet

New Zealand websites are reporting the Jackson paid around $50 million to pick up a Gulfstream G550.

His new plane is able to fly non-stop from Australia to Los Angeles and will replace his older Gulfstream IV which had to make a fueling stop on the way because of its shorter range.

The G550 usually accommodates 12 to 16 passengers in leather seats and divans arranged in several distinct living areas.

World Cup final ball sold for $74,000 on eBay

The ball used in Spain’s World Cup final win over the Netherlands has fetched almost $74,000 in a charity auction on eBay.

The famous Jabulani ball was sold for the ‘46664’ HIV/AIDS charity – named after Nelson Mandela’s prisoner number when he was held at Robben Island.

The balls used during the World Cup were critiqued for their unpredictability and were nicknamed “supermarket balls.”

Crafted from metal, sapphire crystal and leather, the quadband device known only as the “Bellperre” comes with a 2.2 inch display, a 5 megapixel camera, GPS, accelerometer, FM radio, email and support for up to 80 languages.

India’s luxury car boom

Sales of luxury cars produced by German marque Mercedes-Benz surged by 69 percent in India during the first six months of 2010.

The figures are a sign of the growing market for luxury car brands in India, where overall passenger sales are expected to grow by 12-13 percent this year by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers.

The luxury market, although only accounting for a tiny proportion of overall sales, is rapidly gaining traction with Indians seeing a rise in income levels, thanks in part to foreign automakers making more vehicles easily accessible in the country.

Gucci “Special Edition” Heritage Aviators

The House of Gucci has come out with a new collection of “heritage” aviator sunglasses.

The three new models (unisex 1627/S, men’s 1622/S, and women’s 3108/S) all feature the red and green Gucci stripe and “G” logo on both temples.

The sunglasses come with a special edition leather case and carrying pouch. The case has a wide signature stripe while the pouch has a matching strap.
