Cullinan Heritage Diamond sells for $35.3 million

Petra Diamonds Limited announced that the 507 carat Cullinan Heritage sold for US $35.3 million, the highest sale price on record for a rough diamond.

The diamond was sold on tender in South Africa and was purchased by Hong Kong-based Chow Tai Fook Chow Tai Fook Jewellery Company .

The Cullinan Heritage was recovered in September 2009 from Petra’s Cullinan mine in South Africa.

At 507.5 carats it is the nineteenth largest gem diamond ever discovered.

Robb Report Car of the Year 2010

Robb Report’s panel of 50 VIP judges have selected the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG as “2010 Car of the Year.”

In taking the award, the SLS AMG beat out 11 other worthy contenders to the throne.

Robb Report’s Car of the Decade trophy has been awarded to the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport.

Louis Vuitton Mon Monogram Service online

Louis Vuitton continues to expand their online store and have announced the introduction of the Louis Vuitton Mon Monogram service.

The service will allow you to customize your Louis Vuitton bag, ending up with over 200 million possible combinations on your bag of choice.

The selection of bags include the iconic Speedy, historic Keepall travel bag, or the Pegase 55 wheeled cabin case.

Once you choose your item you can pick up to three initials and vertical or diagonal stripes. There are 17 color options to choose from.

GM to end Hummer as deal with Chinese firm fails

General Motors is to wind down operations of its Hummer vehicles – after failing to complete a planned takeover by a Chinese firm.

GM did not comment on why the sale to China-based Tengzhong had collapsed. Reports have said Beijing had refused to approve the purchase.

GM agreed to sell the brand last year, as it offloaded famous names it owned and went into bankruptcy protection.

Hummers were originally built as military off-road vehicles by a company called AM General.

The brand took off as US motorists flocked to the sport utility vehicles favoured by celebrities including Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Mercedes SLS AMG: F1 Safety Car 2010

 

Daimler has unveiled today the official Mercedes SLS AMG F1 Safety Car which will have its debut in Bahrain in the middle of March.

The Mercedes SLS AMG F1 Safety Car is the most powerful of its kind since the racing series began.

Powered by the German power house’s 6.3-litre V8 engine, the Mercedes SLS AMG F1 Safety Car develops 420 kW (571 hp) and 650 Nm of torque.

Mansory Rolls Royce Ghost

Mansory has just unveiled the Mansory Rolls Royce Ghost program that brings new looks and upgraded performance to the luxury model.

The Mansory Rolls Royce Ghost is powered by the standard engine that has been upgraded from 570 hp (420 kW) and 780 Nm of torque to 720 hp (530 kW) at 5,850 rpm and a very serious 1,020 Nm of torque.

To get the extra umpf, the Mansory Rolls Royce Ghost has received larger turbochargers, a re-programmed ECU, a sports manifold and sports catalysers.

The car can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in only 4.4 seconds (with a half a second faster than the serial version) and has a top speed of 310 km/h.
