A hundred years ago Renée, Gaston Louis Vuitton’s wife, used to collect the small wooden toys manufactured by the Vuitton family.

Richard Branson’s Catamaran Is Open For Charter

Richard Branson has completed a refit of his 105-foot carbon fiber catamaran and is offering it for charter this season, starting next month.

Originally launched as the Lady Barbaretta in 2003 and now named Necker Belle, she spent two years being done over at Australia’s Azzura Marine and their in-house fittings division AM Interiors.

The speedy little tart is capable of topping 20 knots while under sail and 18 knots under power with all the stability one would expect of a big cat.

Giant Tuna Fetches $177000 at Japan Auction

A giant bluefin tuna fetched 16.3 million yen ($177,000) in an auction Tuesday at the world’s largest wholesale fish market in Japan.

The bluefin tuna weighs 232 kg – nearly four times as much as the average Japanese man.

It was caught off the northern tip of Japan’s main island of Honshu, in waters famed for high quality fish.

The Skiff Reader

The Skiff Reader has overtaken the Amazon Kindle DX as the largest e-reader on the market, but its size isn’t what makes the Skiff so special.

The Skiff Reader brings two new technologies to the large-scale e-reader market: a touchscreen e-ink display and “silicon thin-film-transistors on a flexible steel substrate”.

The Skiff Reader plans to come out swinging with a large 11.5-inch size and a high 1200 x 1600 pixel screen resolution.

Dubai inaugurates world’s tallest building

The financially troubled Gulf emirate of Dubai on Monday opened the world’s tallest building, a glistening concrete, glass and steel pinnacle rising 828 metres (2,717 feet) out of the desert sands.

Blazing fireworks rippled up and down the massive structure after it was officially opened by Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashed al-Maktoum.

He renamed the building, previously known as Burj Dubai, Burj Khalifa in honour of United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al-Nahayan.

Italian bicycle manufacturer Milani is teaming up with Maserati to produce some high end two-wheelers.

The Maserati bicycle is made of carbon fiber and aluminum and is painted in Maserati’s signature dark blue paint.

It comes in two models, the Veloce racing bicycle inspired by the Maserati GranTurismo and the Turismo city bicycle modeled after the Quattroporte.

Dubai to open world’s tallest building

Once-bustling Dubai will open the world’s tallest skyscraper on Monday, boasting new limits in design and construction, hopeful of polishing an image tarnished by the debt woes afflicting the Gulf emirate.

Emaar, the giant property firm which developed the needle-shaped concrete, steel and glass structure, has declined to reveal Burj Dubai’s exact height.

Apparently wanting to maintain the suspense, the company will say only that the tower exceeds 800 metres (2,640 feet), putting it far higher than Taiwan’s Taipei 101 tower (508 metres).

German actress Diane Kruger has been signed to beauty giant L’Oréal amid a trend of Hollywood stars representing leading beauty brands.

The move comes after a series of announcements including Lancôme signing Julia Roberts and Helena Rubinstein tapping Demi Moore as the faces for their beauty ads.

L’Oréal previously appointed Slumdog Millionaire star Freida Pinto as one of its global brand ambassadors, an evident move towards more ethnic diversity.
