Neiman Marcus 2009 Christmas Book released

The 2009 Christmas Book was released Tuesday by luxury retailer Neiman Marcus in Dallas.

The 83rd edition continues Neiman Marcus’ longstanding tradition of offering its customers the ultimate in awe-inspiring gifts.

But this year, perhaps a sign of the tough economic times, the million-dollar gifts are gone and 40 percent of the items are priced at under $250.

Infiniti Essence Concept At Detroit Louis Vuitton Store

Over the weekend the 2.4 million dollar Infiniti Essence Concept car was on display at the Louis Vuitton store in Troy, Michigan’s Somerset Collection Mall.

The car is part of a nationwide tour by Infiniti to keep in touch with customers during 2009, since they’ve decided to stay out of auto shows this year.

Since the car was developed with custom LV luggage, they’re stopping at as many stores as they can and throwing a little bash for select customers”

Dalmore Releases £10,000 Malt Whisky

Dalmore distillery has announced the launch of one of its most prized whiskies – the Sirius – with a price of £10,000 per bottle.

Sirius will only be available to private buyers and through a limited network of World Duty Free (WDF) stores.

The Dalmore’s 1951 Sirius Vintage is a single-cask, single malt whisky, with a cask strength of 45%.

Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie To Build Private Airstrip

Reports say that Hollywood celebrities Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are considering building an airport at their French chateau.

Brad and Angelina, who both have pilot licences, would then be able to fly their brood in and out of the 1,000-acre estate without being seen by paparazzi.

The couple, along with their six children, stays in a vacation property in Chateau Miraval estate whenever they are in France.

Mont Blanc Gandhi pen causes criticism in India

This week marked the 140th anniversary of the birth of Indian independence pioneer Mahatma Gandhi.

And to commemorate a man who chose a life of poverty and shunned material goods, Montblanc has created a limited-edition pen with a price tag of $25,000.

Just 241 of the handmade pens will be sold, in reference to the number of miles Gandhi walked in his famous march against salt taxes in 1930.

Tiger Woods: The First $1 Billion Athlete

Forbes magazine has announced that Tiger Woods is the first athlete to surpass $1 billion in earnings and endorsement money.

The magazine estimates that golf’s top-ranked player crested the plateau when he earned $10 million for winning the FedEx Cup on Sunday.

Woods has been the world’s highest-paid athlete since 2002 when he surpassed Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher.

Gulfstream Rolls Out G650‎

Gulfstream Aerospace rolled out its new flagship business jet, the all-new Gulfstream G650, at company headquarters in Savannah on Tuesday.

Approximately 7,000 people gathered at the new G650 manufacturing building for the aircraft’s debut.

First announced in March 2008, the ultra-large-cabin, ultra-long-range G650 remains on schedule for customer deliveries in 2012.

Champagne makers Piper Heidsieck have worked with master shoe maker Christian Louboutin to create a unique box set: “Le Rituel” Box Set.

The set consists of a bottle of champagne and a glass shoe designed by Christian Louboutin.

The project has been named Le Rituel after a French ritual popular in the 1880’s where one would drink champagne from a woman’s shoe.

World’s most expensive breakfast unveiled

The opening of the West End production of Breakfast At Tiffany’s was celebrated with the unveiling of apparently the world’s most expensive breakfast.

The meal created by the makers of Chambord, the French black raspberry liqueur, included 22,000-pound-croissant, cocktail and coffee.

The croissant was hand-decorated and covered in edible gold and diamonds, The Telegraph reports.

Unique Spider Silk Tapestry on Exhibit at AMNH

The American Museum of Natural History has unveiled in New York something never before seen: an 11-by-4-foot tapestry made completely of spider silk.

Weavers in Madagascar took four years to make it, with the help of more than 1 million spidersand the museum says there’s no other like it in the world.

The color is a radiant gold — the natural color of the golden orb-weaving spider, from the Nephila genus, one that’s found in several parts of the world.

507 Carat Diamond Found in South Africa

Petra Diamonds has announced the recovery of a 507.55-carat rough white diamond from the famed Cullinan Mine in South Africa.

This spectacular gemstone was recovered on Thursday 24 September and is currently with experts for analysis.

Initial examinations indicate that the stone is of exceptional color and clarity, and is most likely a Type II diamond.

Financial troubles ground NYC helicopter shuttle

Scheduled helicopter service between two heliports in Manhattan and two major airports that serve New York City abruptly shut down on Friday.

U.S. Helicopter, which started up 3 ½ years ago, provided the first shuttle service since the 1980s from Manhattan to a commercial airport.

It was charging as much as $159 each way for an eight-minute trip between one of the heliports in Manhattan and Kennedy International or Newark Liberty International Airports

Many of the world’s regions have switched places in the UBS rankings as currencies fluctuated in the wake of the financial crisis.

UBS Bank used to rank London the most expensive city in the world – but it has now plummeted to the 22nd spot. All in just one year.

In the 2009 list, Oslo has been crowned the most expensive city in the world, followed by Zurich and Copenhagen.
