Making of Longchamp SS09 Campaign

Kate Moss has been a Longchamp girl for quite some time now.

Since the house recently entered into a new territory, Ready To Wear, they brought along Sasha Pivovarova and produced an incredible ad campaign shot by amazing duo Mert and Marcus.

The campaign, shot in Los Angeles, features Kate and Sasha against a stark green backdrop. The sharp contrast complements the two in Longchamp‘s striking clothing selection. Watch the Making of below.

Sotheby’s Versace villa sale beats estimates

Artworks belonging to the late Gianni Versace sold at a London auction for more than twice the presale estimate, the second time in a month the public sale of a famed fashion designer’s items had defied the economic slump.

The 545-lot sale of the contents of Villa Fontanelle, Versace’s early 19th-century mansion on the shores of Lake Como, fetched 7.4 million pounds ($10.5 million) last night, against a presale top estimate of 2.8 million pounds.

Like the Saint Laurent sale, the Versace sale was a chance to pick up pieces personally selected by a man of great taste.

Casa Kimball, Dominican Republic

Completed December 2008, Casa Kimball is a luxury rental villa located on the North coast of the Dominican Republic.

World’s most expensive armchair

A small brown leather armchair once owned by Yves Saint Laurent has reportedly sold for £19.4 million (nearly $28 million), making it the most expensive piece of 20th-century design to ever be auctioned.

The armchair, by Irish designer Eileen Gray was only expected to reach around £3 mllion at Christie’s in Paris. It was bought by specialist Paris art gallery Robert and Cheska Vallois.

The unique piece – known as the “dragons’ armchair because of the ornate sculptures on its sweeping armrests – was created between 1917 and 1919 by Miss Gray.

Karim Rashid’s Sound-absorbing Wall Panels

“Made out of molded recyclable polyester fiber and coming in four shades that range from hot fuchsia to plain white, the Soundwave Flo wall panels designed by Karim Rashid for Swedish furniture company Offecct, are making big noise in the designing world.”

These panels help reduce disturbing reflections of environmental sounds such as voices, telephones etc.

Sou Fujimoto for Lexus

Following its successful participation in previous years, Lexus will be returning to the 2009 Milan Design Week with an art exhibition entitled “Lexus L-finesse – crystallised wind”, a combination of Lexus L-Finesse design philosophy and the very finest in contemporary art, architecture and design elements from Japan.

The exhibition will take place in Milan’s Museo della Permanente art gallery, from April 22nd to 26th , as part of the world’s largest design exhibition, the Salone del Mobile di Milano.

Sou Fujimoto, a ground-breaking Japanese architect, will re-interpret the ambivalence of the Lexus design philosophy ‘L-finesse’ through a dynamic installation that combines unity in space, sound and lighting.

70-inch multi-touch table by Strukt

Strukt brought a stunning multi-touch table, called “Struktable” to the 2009 TOCA ME design conference in Munich.

With its 70-inch display size, the Struktable is built for simultaneous interaction of up to 8 people. The touch-sensitive surface recognizes unlimited finger touches at the same time – therefore, users can interact more intuitively.

The table features 5 simple and exciting demo applications. The company used VVVV, a toolkit for real time video synthesis, to develop the demo applications.

Louis Vuitton opens Champs-Elysees store Sunday amid legal battle

Louis Vuitton opened its Champs-Elysees store Sunday amid an ongoing national battle over the supposed day of rest.

French law only allows retailers that sell sporting, recreational, leisure and culture items in heavily trafficked tourist areas to open Sunday. The law is aimed to support “dominical rest.”

Louis Vuitton has argued that the store features a cultural element. The French Confederation of Christian Workers, or CFTC, and a federation of clothing and accessories vendors filed a complaint against the retailer.

Le Grand Monde d’Andy Warhol

The newly remodeled Grand Palais hosts “Le Grand Monde d’Andy Warhol”.

The exhibition consists of almost 150 works, some of them coming out of private collections for the first time, by pop art legend Andy Warhol.

Warhol wanted to produce portraits that showed not just people, but a society, a whole wide world,” said Alain Cueff, curator of the show.

Escada Fighting For Survival

Luxury fashion house Escada is on the brink of collapse after announcing today that it needs €30 million in liquidity by October 31 to make up for the year-on-year loss.

Chief Financial Officer Markus Schuerholz said that an attempt to raise urgent funds by restructuring and raising further capital will be made over the next few weeks.

The announcement followed the first quarter earnings report that indicated a €6.3m loss.

Madonna in Palm Beach?

Madonna has reportedly moved into a Palm Beach mansion with Jesus Luz, the hot Brazilian model with whom she is rumoured to be having a passionate fling.

Madonna signed a $50,000 month-to-month lease on a villa located at the posh Palm Beach Polo and Country Club in Wellington, which is on the market for $6.5 million, the Palm Beach Post reports.

The one-month lease expires March 31, but the singer is so taken by Wellington that she is looking to buy.

Platinum Yachts unveils the world’s largest superyacht

With her length of 162 metres, Dubai is the largest yacht in the world. She was originally commissioned by a Prince from Brunei and she was to be built at Blohm & Voss in co-operation with Lürssen.

When a large part of the hull and superstructure of Project Panhandle/Golden Star was completed, the construction stopped and the unfinished yacht was sold to the ruler of Dubai.

Following the sale, the project was renamed Platinum and transported from Germany to Dubai for completion at the newly formed shipyard, Platinum Yachts.

Mini Airstream

One probably doesn’t immediately think of a MINI as a car to take on a camping trip. It is far too urban a model for that.

But MINI and Airstream have collaborated on this design, created by Danish furniture maker Republic of Fritz Hansen, that will bring a little style to the old trailer park.

The first spotting will be at the Salone del Mobile show and the INTERNI DESIGN ENERGIES exhibition in Milan, Italy (April 21-30 2009).
