Kenzo Auctions Contents of Paris House

Japanese fashion designer Kenzo Takada will auction off some of the art that inspired his East-meets-West style, as he trades his plush Paris mansion for smaller digs on the Seine River.

The announcement came a month after the late Yves Saint-Laurent’s art collection was put up for auction by his partner Pierre Berge, a 373.5-million-euro bonanza that caused friction with China over a pair of looted bronze relics.

From Hopi Kachina dolls to bronze Buddhas, more than 1,000 pieces collected over the past two decades will be on the block at the June 16-17 sale organized by Aguttes auction house.

$30 Million Dress On Sale

A dress has gone on sale in Malaysia with a $30 million price tag, Reuters reports.

The dress is decorated with 750 diamonds, including a 70 carat pear-shaped stone at the centre of the bodice and a train encrusted with real diamonds.

The designer Faisol Abdullah told Reuters: “Stocks drop, gold is even falling but a diamond is forever. This is a dress with diamonds. Why go backwards, why can’t we go forward? We are going to the fantastic, but it’s real. You are getting value for money with these diamonds.

Israel’s Richest Woman Puts Her Yacht Up For Sale

Israel’s richest woman, billionaire Shari Arison, has put up her yacht, “My Shanti” up for sale. She is asking $100 million.

Merle Wood’s listing states that the My Shanti is 212 feet/64 meters long, and built by the Dutch shipyard Amels in 2007.

The My Shanti was assessed at $70-80 million a year ago, the price that Arison paid for it. The yacht has a banquet hall, cinema, staterooms, kitchen, and large mess room. It can reach a maximum speed of 40 knots.

Sardinia to scrap tax on mega rich

The new governor of the sun-swept Italian island of Sardinia is repealing a tax on the mega rich that will benefit, among others, jet setters like billionaire Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi.

Governor Ugo Cappellacci, the son of Berlusconi’s tax adviser, proposed a budget that repeals the tax on mooring luxury yachts and landing private aircraft on the island where the prime minister owns a holiday mansion.

The luxury taxes, which opponents said scared away the rich and hurt tourism, were introduced under the previous centre-left governor, Renato Soru, who was ousted in elections last month. Via: Reuters

Carlsberg launches world’s most expensive beer

Carlsberg has launched Vintage No. 2, the second brew in its Vintage trilogy. Sold at the price of €270 ($367) per bottle, it claims to be one of the world’s most expensive beers.

Carlsberg says that Vintage No. 2 has been matured in J.C. Jacobsen’s original cellar from 1847 where it has been stored in French oak casks for 100 days.

The beer has a jet-black colour and espresso-like foam, revealing flavours of vanilla and cocoa/mocha. The brewer says it complements oysters, shellfish, Parma ham and cheese, and if you crave something sweet, it will also go with chocolate and crème brûlée.

Monaco Tops London as World’s Most Expensive Real Estate Market

London has been pushed off its top spot by Monaco as the most expensive place to buy residential property, with the UK capital and surrounding counties suffering some of the biggest price falls in the world.

Monaco, where prime property is being sold for €50,000 ($68,000) per sq m (your average 1,500 square foot apartment would theoretically run you $10 million), is now followed by London, at €28,000 per sq m, then Manhattan, at €16,500 per sq m.

The Wealth Report, compiled by Citi Private Bank and Knight Frank shows that property values fell 17 percent in London and 25 percent in Hong Kong.

New Chanel No.5 Ad with Audrey Tautou

Following the footsteps of Nicole Kidman, actress Audrey Tautou will step into the starring role of a Jean-Pierre Jeunet-directed commercial for Chanel No. 5

The theme is missed encounters between strangers — played by Tautou and model Travis Davenport — as they ride the Orient Express from Paris to Istanbul.

There is no dialogue, only the vivid color imagery Jeunet is known for: as Billie Holiday’s “I’m a Fool to Want You” plays, he lingers outside her train cabin, and later, in Istanbul, she misses the riverboat he is on, only to photograph him on deck from another ship later.

Marc Jacobs Buying $13 Million NYC Townhouse?

Louis Vuitton designer Marc Jacobs and boyfriend Lorenzo Martone are said to have signed a contract to buy a $13 million townhouse designed by Robert A.M. Stern in New York’s West Village, the Real Estalker reports.

The 4,500-sq.-ft. townhouse, located on Bethune St., has private elevator serving all floors, a rear terrace, a roof terrace and all the most modern electronic conveniences.

The entire complex is registered with the U.S. Green Building Council and the developers are aiming at achieving LEED Silver Certification which will make it one of the more energy friendly and politically correct condo complexes in New York City.

JPMorgan Chase To Spend Millions on New Jets

Embattled bank JPMorgan Chase, the recipient of $25 billion in TARP funds, is going ahead with a $138 million plan to buy two new luxury corporate jets and build “the premier corporate aircraft hangar on the eastern seaboard” to house them, ABC News reports.

The financial giant’s upgrade includes nearly $120 million for two Gulfstream 650 planes and $18 million for a lavish renovation of a hangar at the Westchester Airport outside New York City.

The Gulfstream 650’s are described by the manufacturer as the “fastest,” “widest” and “most comfortable” private jet ever with superior cabin amenities, an optional stateroom, and 12 interior designs to choose from.
