Takashi Murakami’s retrospective

Born in Tokyo in 1962, Takashi Murakami is one of the most influential artists of Japan.

He was considered the Japanese Andy Warhol, but in his artworks in place of Marilyn Monroe or Campbell’s Soup, there is a representation of contemporary popular culture in the forms of anime and manga, together with American Pop Art and European Surrealism.

From February 17 through May 31 2009, his “Superflat” style, as he himself defines it in his own writings, is on exibition at the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao.

Club Coke 2009 by Justice and So-Me

Ed Banger Records SO ME and Justice hooked up to create this special bottle design in celebration of the new Club Coke. The bottle launched last week at the VIP Room in Paris.

The bottle comes in a red colorway and features the “Do The Dance By Justice And So_Me” slogan. At night the bottle will show its real feature – it glows in the dark.

Lincoln speech manuscript sells for $3.4 million

A rare manuscript of a speech by Abraham Lincoln calling on the country to unite amid civil war in 1864 sold at auction Thursday for 3.4 million dollars.

The sale, held at Christie’s in New York on the 200th anniversary of Lincoln’s birth, was a record for a US historical manuscript, according to the auction house, and inside the three to four million dollar estimate.

In the November 10, 1864 speech, made shortly after he won re-election, Lincoln wrote: “Now that the election is over, may not all, having a common interest, reunite in a common effort, to save our common country?” Source: AFP

Hats: An Anthology by Stephen Jones

For London Fashion Week, the Victoria and Albert Museum of art and design will present an “anthology of hats” bringing together more than 300 pieces from around the world.

This exhibition, a collaboration between the V&A and the radical hat designer Stephen Jones, will open on February 24 and will be arranged in four main themes, following the life of a hat through the stages of inspiration, creation, the salon, and on, to the client who wears it.

The world’s most expensive private island

The world’s most expensive private island that we could locate is Niihau, Hawaii. The island is referred to as ‘the forbidden island’ and is Hawaii’s smallest inhabited island.

There are roughly 250 residents of the 72 square mile island who live without roads, hotels, restaurants and electricity.

The island is a native Hawaiian preserve and it is the only island in the state where the primary language is still Hawaiian.

Niihau is owned by the Robinson family of Kaua’i and is estimated to be worth $100 million USD.

Glass Artist Jon Kuhn Unveils $1.2 Million Piano

Kuhn Studio has officially unveiled the first Kuhn-Bösendorfer grand piano in its Winston-Salem, N.C. gallery.

The $1.2 million piano claims to be the most expensive new limited edition piano currently available.

The stunning 7’4″ black Kuhn-Bösendorfer piano (along with its matching bench) is inset with as many as 100-thousand hand cut, lead crystal jewels arranged in a glittering array of diamond patterns on the case, lid, legs and fallboard.

Volkswagen of America, Inc. has released a special edition model of the New Beetle convertible, titled “Blush”.  As its names suggests, a red leather interior combined with a red ragtop is an exclusive to this version.

On the outside, it features  an elegant metallic “White Gold” paint. The “Blush” edition  also  includes a red boot for when the convertible top is down and unique17-inch alloy wheels.

Like the New Beetle standard versione Blush gets a 2.5-liter engine that produces 150-horsepower, and 170 lbs.ft. of torque.

First pics of Porsche Panamera interior

Inside Robbie Williams’ North Wiltshire mansion

There are seven bedroom suites, a helicopter hangar, a basement pool surrounded by Doric pillars and approached through a lobby whose black-and-white flooring was inspired by the decor of the residence of Pierce Brosnan in The Thomas Crown Affair, plus a formal garden with temples and fountains. An 11th-century church stands close by.

These are just some of the features of Compton Bassett House, the extensively restored 18th century mansion near Calne in Wiltshire recently bought by the singer Robbie Williams.
