A champagne holder for yacht owners

For the yacht owner who want all the luxuries onboard, you can now add the gimballed champagne holder to your accessories, so as not to spill a drop of Champagne anymore!

The extraordinary hand-manufactured piece “was designed for Dutch company Bottler BV by a famous Dutch interior yacht designer, who was inspired by Gerolamo Cardano, the Italian physician, philosopher and mathematician. In 1537 he developed his ‘cardanic suspension’ (gimbals), in order to hold the compass stably against the ships movements.” It is designed with three concentric rings hold the bottle perpendicularly no matter the motion of the boat.

This extraordinary tribute to hedonism is made with watch-making precision and available in three different metals (brass, nickel and gold-plated) to match the interior of any yacht

Prices start from €5.500 (Bottler “J-Class limited edition” is priced €10.000)

For additional details or more information regarding Bottler, please contact Nathalie Beck, info@bottler.nl

Plans For Paris Skyline

One of the world’s most beautiful city skylines could be changed dramatically after a ban on high-rise buildings in Paris was scrapped last week.

The Paris city council voted Tuesday to consider erecting tall buildings on the rim of this historically low-rise capital. Plans to build towers of up to 220m at six sites in the French capital will now go to public consultation. They will contain shops, offices and childcare centres.

Socialist mayor Bertrand Delanoe also wants new blocks of flats to counter a housing shortage.

The ban on buildings exceeding 40m was introduced in 1977. Many believed that the 350m Eiffel Tower should be the only building dominating the skyline.
Building height limits have changed little in Paris since Baron Haussmann redesigned the city during the mid-19th century, with caps now at 121 feet.

Only a handful of exceptions have been made for high-rise projects in recent decades
The new decision means that six new sites, under consideration for completion between 2012 and 2014, could host buildings reaching as high as 656 feet, or a little under two-thirds the height of the Eiffel Tower.

The city is currently home to only a scattering of towers, notably including the Montparnasse Tower, which, at 690 feet, stirred controversy when it was built in 1972 and is still considered an eyesore by many Parisians today.
Mr Delanoe insisted the new rules would not blight Paris, saying the administration would not repeat the mistakes of the past.

Most Expensive Record

Question : What is the most expensive record in the world?

Answer : An early disc created by three of the original Beatles has become England’s most expensive record of all time and has an estimated value of £100,000 ($200,000).

Recorded in 1958 by the band Quarry Men, (Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison, Colin Hanton and John Duff Lowe), the first pressing of their version of “That’ll Be The Day” would be a jewel in any collection.

Most members of the band attended Quarry Banks grammar school, from which they derived the name. The band lasted until 1958, when Lowe and Hanton left the group.

After that, the group went through several names before settling on The Beatles.
Sir Paul McCartney owns the first pressing. Record Collector, a magazine, arrived at the £100,000 figure through information from experts, collectors and dealers.

The expensive single also contains an original B-side by McCartney and Harrison, “In Spite of All the Danger.”

The most expensive LCD TV in the world

Here is an item that was displayed for the first time at Berlin’s International Consumer Electronics Fair in 2006.

Italian maker Keymat Industries produced this most expensive LCD panel in the world. It is not the technology behind it that makes it uber-expensive, but the diamonds around it.

Studded with four grams of diamonds (the 40 inch model has 160 real diamonds embedded around the screen), and plated with white gold, the YALOS Diamond LCD is available in 26, 32, 37, 40 and 46 inch sizes. The 40 inch model costs $150,000.

With so much diamonds around the screen, I’m wondering how I could keep my focus on any TV program ! (Luckily, I can’t afford it).

Rolls-Royce joins American shipyards to meet global demand for Megayachts

I am so tired from all my weekend activities to write anything tonight so I am just going to leave you with the press release from Rolls-Royce Marine : they decided to enter the megayachts market to meet the global demand and help the poor wealthy people who have been waiting for their luxury yacht for too long : )

European shipyards are backed up with megayacht orders, charging up to $1 million per foot for yachts over 250’, and with customers waiting 6 years for delivery due to a dearth of building capacity. To help meet this demand, Rolls-Royce Marine has been contracted by a consortium of American shipbuilders led by Atlantic Yachts and its CEO Paul Madden, the former North American representative for Blohm+Voss – Germany’s ‘über’ yacht builder specializing in megayachts from 300-feet, to over 500-feet in length.

The US-built megayachts are European-designed. With the Dollar-Euro advantage, combined with US shipyard capacities, the megayachts will cost one-third less, and can be delivered in half the time as the European-built megayachts.

“Our core management were recruited from the top European shipyards, and we enlist sub-contractors from both sides of the Atlantic,” reports CEO Paul Madden. “This is a classic technology and design transfer from Europe to the US, where we currently have a significant advantage in the manufacture of sophisticated equipment, such as large steel motor yachts. We are using the same shipyards that build the next-generation US Navy ships.”

Rolls-Royce Marine is working in concert with several top European yacht designers, providing engineering and integrated power, propulsion and stability systems on all of Atlantic’s US-built yachts.

Rolls-Royce’s Marine Division provides engineering and equipment on 20,000 commercial and naval vessels operating around the world, ranging from nuclear submarines to megayachts. They also provide ongoing warranty and unparalleled service from Rolls-Royce’s 40 offices in 30 countries.

The venture plans to deliver 2 to 3 megayachts per year, representing over a half billion dollars in gross sales annually. The customer list can not be discussed, according to Madden. “Suffice it to say that they are high-net-worth individuals who value discretion.”

The company does not advertise. Its phone number is unlisted. “We only deal directly with owners and their designers and technical teams,” states Madden. “Rest assured, our clients have my cell number. And they are not shy about calling, day or night…”

Moody Aquarium Sink

Moody is not only a simple washbasin, but also an aquarium for goldfish, a Zen garden or a simple pebble river bed or whatever you would like it to be. It is completely watertight with a sand bed for fish, and provides the necessary lighting for maintaining your fish in healthy conditions.

A powerhead is also provided to ensure water circulation, oxygenation and filtration. There are two openings, one on each side of the basin, closed by soap dishes to access the crystal top for cleaning purposes or changing arrangement. (they’ve even tested it to make sure that the fish won’t die if you fill the sink with hot water!)

The washbasin is mounted on a chrome finish brass stand provided with a convenient front towel rail.

Moody is definitely a beautiful concept that will transform your bathroom to whatever you would like it to be (till you see the algae starts growing o_O) !

It might even get your kids to wash their hands and brush their teeth more often!

Sgt Pepper Drum Skin Sells At Auction

The drum skin used on the cover of The Beatles’ Sgt Pepper album has sold for £541,250 ($1.07m) at auction in London, almost four times the estimate.

The skin was a hand-painted item that was only ever used for the cover of the classic 1967 album.
Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band was not only one of The Beatles biggest albums, it was also one of the most important albums ever from the rock era.

The Beatles began recording the album on December 6, 1966 and spent the next 129 days in recording. That was an amazing time for a recording in the 60s.

The Sgt Pepper skin was just one of many Beatles items that sold at the auction : a pair of tinted prescription sunglasses belonging to Lennon, which the singer wore for the cover of the single Mind Games, raised £39,650 ($78,400) and the hand-written lyrics to “Give Peace A Chance” sold for £421,250 ($833,000). Le Voyage de Delamain – Grande Champagne cognacs

Le Voyage is a blend of Grande Champagne cognacs from the highly respected house of Delamain, nearly 250 years old.

The blend of these cognacs from yesteryear unfolds a kaleidoscope of subtle sensations: all the perfumes of Russian leather, the musky aroma of the tropics, the heady scent of tobacco from the Americas, of coffee from Africa heralding the spicy hints of the Far East and finally the bouquet of grapes from the hillsides of the Grande Champagne.

To ensure that the packing would be treasured, Delamain commissioned French glassmaker Baccarat to design a custom crystal decanter, forged from fire and silica, that would then be encased in a fan-shaped leather luxury gift box, reminiscent of a camera’s bellows.

Most of the 500 bottles sold worldwide have already been purchased or reserved but some are still available on vintagewinegifts priced at £4,000 a bottle.
