World Record for a Color Diamond

A blue diamond of 13.39 cts. became the most important color diamond sold at auction anywhere in the world during the past 10 years, according to Christie’s.

Offered at auction house’s in Geneva location on Wednesday, it achieved a world record price of $8.9 million.

This impressive result is due to the scarcity of colored diamonds on the market, and to the great demand from collectors around the world for exceptional artworks and jewels that is currently dominating the auction world,” said François Curiel, chairman of Christie’s Europe. Via JCK

Singapore Airlines adds iPod docks to business class

Singapore Airlines is installing iPod docks and 15.4-inch widescreen LCDs in their all-Business Class Airbus A340-500 flights between NY/LA and Singapore.

Whilst two years ago, the crew promoted their luxury seats with superior first class cabin that were packed with largest chairs in the sky.

The proviso will facilitate flyers to enjoy movies and music via integrated noise-proof headphones that gets switched off as and when any announcement is made from the flight crew. Via gizmodo

Davidoff Launches Winston Churchill Cigars

Davidoff of Geneva has introduced a new brand of cigars called Winston Churchill.

Named after one of the world’s most notable cigar icons, the project was a collaboration between Churchill’s grandson Winston S. Churchill and Davidoff’s Henke Kelner.

The Winston Churchill is the only brand with full Cuban seed tobacco produced by Davidoff.

Pair of melons fetch record price of 2.5 million yen

Two prized local melons fetched a record price of 2.5 million yen for the pair during the season’s first auction at a wholesale market on Tuesday.

“I had expected Yubari melons would fetch a high price, but I didn’t expect the figure to be this high,” said a startled broker at the Sapporo City Central Wholesale Markets in Sapporo’s Chuo-ku.

The pair of melons, which weigh 3.9 kilograms in total, fetched the record price of 2.5 million yen after 100 melons were put up for auction on Tuesday.

The 900 HP Weber Becomes World’s Fastest Car

Here is the next vehicle that claims to be the world’s fastest street-legal sports car – the Weber Sportcars Faster One.

Reportedly, the car can go from 0 – 62 mph in 2.7 seconds, 0 – 124 mph in just 6.6 seconds, and has a top speed said to be over 248 mph! That’s fast.

For around $1.5 million, you get a 900-horsepower / 774 lb-ft twin-supercharged V8 engine and a set of 12-piston, 15-inch ceramic brakes.

“Favorable aerodynamic properties are absolutely elementary in order to attain a top speed of more than 400 km/h. The car body of the WEBER SPORTCARS faster one is 204 centimeters wide and 115 centimeters high. It is made entirely from ultra-light yet super-strong carbon fiber. State-of-the-art aerodynamics computer software and wind-tunnel testing were employed to trim the carbon-fiber shell for maximum directional stability at the highest speeds. ”

The collection ($1,650 to $2,350), launched in collaboration with Dallas showroom owner David Sutherland, is called RobinWood, and the designs are evocative of 13th-century England.

Humble, recognizable shapes that could’ve once been made of oak are given the Starck touch with sustainable teak and touches of polished aluminum.

The $2,157,760 Patek Philippe becomes the most expensive wrist watch in the world

The Trossi Leggenda wristwatch, pictured right with its original owner, Count Carlo Felice Trossi, the racing driver who won the 1947 Italian Grand Prix, has sold at auction for a record 2.35 million Swiss francs ($2,157,760).

The large gold Patek Philippe watch owned by the Italian count, who was the president of Scuderia Ferrari and also raced speedboats, reached the highest price for a watch at Sotheby’s, the auction house said.

A gold Rolex from about 1980, known as the Oyster Daytona Paul Newman, sold for SwFr157,000 in the same auction.
