Stuart Phillips’ Most Expensive Haircut

Hairstylist Stuart Phillips is currently the official stylist for the annual British Academy of Film and Television Arts Awards. His clients include Jean-Claude Van Damme & Ivana Trump, but Phillips recently gained more fame for being entered into the Guinness Book of World Records for the most expensive haircut ever.

Here’s the situation: millionaire Beverley Lateo couldn’t go without her dear ole Stuart cutting her hair, even though she was in Italy. So what did she do? Of course, the lady paid a pretty pence for a first-class ticket from London to Italia. Upon arrival, she was picked up by limousine & taken directly to Phillips’ salon where she spent the whole long day.

Entire cost of the haircutting affair, $16,000

Tableside Ice Picking With the Jagger Dagger

Belvedere vodka has been doing a lot of promotion lately to build their brand. The latest is the Jagger Dagger, a sword designed by Jade Jagger, Mick’s daughter and creative director at Garrard.

The sword has an 18K white gold studded hilt with 12 carats of brilliant-cut diamonds, 42 pale sapphires, and a central blue lapis lazuli square.

The blade is created from mirror-polished carbon steel with an engraving of the same tree branches that decorate the Belvedere bottle.

Montblanc Star Nicolas Rieussec Monopusher Chronograph

Nicolas Rieussec is of course the noted and lauded inventor of the chronograph mechanism, with the actual writing of time via ink on the dial.

Today, the chronograph in a wristwatch of course uses hands, subdials, rotating discs, retrograde displays and others to display elapsed time.

For its part, Montblanc introduces a monopusher chronograph with an in-house movement to complement its haute horlogerie line and has obtained rights to use the name Nicolas Rieussec, hence the name of this piece.

This movement originates from Montblanc itself, not Villeret, and forms a key part of Montblanc’s strategy. That alone may be enough to draw the attention of collectors who have previously not paid serious attention to watches from the brand.

The watch has an exceptional power reserve (72 hours) through twin barrels, an unusual monopusher at 8 o’clock and is currently available with a manual winding calibre.

Also notable is the fact that this is a column wheel with vertical clutch chronograph. It is available in rose gold only and water resistant to 30 meters.

Versace $227,000 Jewelry Watch

Versace is branding Luxury. At a recent Watch Fair in Baselworld, the Donatella unveiled the Versace “not like a watch” watch.

Available on order only, it’s a gold timepiece with a dial covered in more than 122 white diamonds. Given that three of this overprecious Destiny watch have already been sold, seems like The Versace lady makes sense:

“Women don’t really need a watch to tell time today — they have their cell phones and BlackBerrys. This is a jewelry watch.”

So? What else is there unnecessary in your daily routine? So we’d know what Versace’s up to next! (after helicopters and watches not meant to be worn as watches)

(not to mention I look at this ultra expensive watch and I don’t see the beauty of it at all! Looks like a fish in a can!)

$6100 Croc-Skinned Tag Heuer Meridiist Phone

To the trailing list of fashion house branded cell phones, we have one more add on from Tag Heuer. Dubbed as Meridiist, it doesn’t come with the usual luxury frills like gold, platinum or diamonds. Not even Swarovski!

However its has used the crocodile to dress this baby. That too on its back. So the front of this cell phone looks practically mundane except for its metallic key pad. As for its functions, its packs the usual features like 1.9″ QVGA main screen, monochrome OLED on its outer rim, 2-megapixel camera and MP3/AAC/MPEG-4 playback. It cost $7,000.

Kari Voutilainen Chronometer 27

Fresh from his win in the Grand Prix de Genève 2007 for his Observatoire wristwatch, Kari Voutilainen’s new creation at this year’s Baselworld represents a marked deviation from his collection of decimal repeaters with circular watch cases.

The Chronometer 27, thus named because of the Caliber 27 it houses, is Voutilainen’s second offering of an observatory watch. These watches were traditionally created for use in timing trials, because of their exceptional accuracy, and were not commercially available to the public.

In the Chronometer 27, hours, minutes, and seconds are displayed on separate sub-dials that intersect, making full use of the elongated space of the case. Like the Observatoire, Voutilainen has chosen to use a Breguet/Grossmann combination for the balance spring.

Chopard Mille Miglia GT XL GMT

Chopard introduces a new member of its highly successful Mille Miglia collection: the Mille Miglia GT XL GMT.

Together with the L.U.C series, Chopard has proven that its highly technical pieces for the men’s collection received as much acclaim as its bejeweled pieces for the softer gender.

The most recognizable feature of the Mille Miglia GT XL GMT is a sketch of the globe at the center of the dial, with a hollowed triangular red arrow to indicate the second time zone.

The oversized 12 and 6 o’clock hour markers lend a sporty look to the watch.

Housing a self-winding movement, which is COSC certified, the watch comes in two versions – steel or 18-carat rose gold, with an option of a tyre-tread rubber or Barenia leather strap pairing.

Patek Philippe Skeletonized Watch Ref 5180

It has been a long time since Patek Philippe gave us a skeletonized watch, and the Ref. 5180/1 showcased at this year’s Baselworld is definitely well worth the wait.

Featuring an ultra-thin self-winding caliber 240 movement with a 22K gold mini-rotor integrated into the plate, this watch is simply a joy to behold.

To fully appreciate a skeletonized watch, try imagining the number of days, hours, and minutes it takes to painstakingly chip away the dial, plates, bridges, and cocks to their bare minimun, and still achieve a fully functional timepiece.

Metallic Jeans – Dior Radioactive Denim

If you’ve ever felt the need to spend $600 on a pair of jeans you are in luck. Dior designed these “radioactive” men’s jeans that are made of 100% cotton, in a dark wash, with a shiny metallic finish. The five pocket cut and button fly appear pretty standard, as does the slightly tapered leg, so my guess is you are paying for the unique silver “radioactive” look, unless they also repel spills…. or are wind resistant, who knows! Available online and in Dior boutiques for $600.
