Tokyo-based Zeus Computer is reaching out to deep-pocketed celebrities and the nouveau riche with a line of luxury personal computers housed in bejeweled cases crafted from precious metals.

The selection includes an 80 million yen ($760,000) pure platinum “Jupiter” model and a more modestly priced 60 million yen ($570,000) solid gold “Mars” model.

Both of which feature a blaze of inset diamonds patterned to look like the zodiac constellations and the Milky Way.

Beijing’s Water Cube opens

China has officially taken the wrapping off its National Aqautics Center, nicknamed the “Water Cube”, which resembles a gigantic box of bubble-wrap.

Designed by a joint Chinese-Australian consortium, the center is one of two iconic structures constructed for the Beijing Olympics this year.

It stands alongside the 91,000 seater National Stadium, more affectionately known as “Bird’s Nest”.

Work on the Water Cube began at the end of 2003 at an estimated cost of US$100 million, and took three years to complete.

At the 2008 Geneva show, Rolls-Royce will formally announce the Phantom Coupe. This comes over a year after the Phantom Drophead Coupe was launched.

The fixed-head Phantom is expected to be much like its convertible precursor. The same 6.75-liter V-12 sits under the long hood, making a familiar 453 hp and 532 lb-ft of torque.

The Coupe can be equipped with the starlight headliner seen on the 101EX concept (below) and also available in the four-door Phantom.
