The famed el Bulli, the Spanish restaurant repeatedly crowned the world’s best, is to become a non-profit foundation from 2014, its avant-garde chef Ferran Adria announced Monday.

The Michelin three-star restaurant will become a “foundation for all avant-garde gastronomy lovers.., a breeding ground for new ideas and for new talents,” he told a news conference at a culinary fair in the city of Santiago de Compostela.

The private foundation will grant between 20 and 25 scholarships annually for chefs and other industry professionals and one of its long-term aims will be to compile an “exhaustive and detailed” encyclopedia of contemporary cuisine.

Molecular gastronomy maven Ferran Adria has announced that he will close his famed Catalonian restaurant El Bulli for all of 2012 and 2013.

The three Michelin star El Bulli, tucked away on the Catalan coast, was last year named the world’s best restaurant by Restaurant magazine in Britain.

“El Bulli is not closing down. I need time to decide how 2014 is going to be . . . I know that when I return it will not be the same”

The AFP is reporting that Oprah Winfrey celebrated her 55th birthday in Barcelona with 1,700 of her employees and their families.

The celebration was held over the weekend at Poble Espanyol before embarking upon a 10-day Mediterranean cruise.

The Chicago Sun Times said last week that Winfrey is paying for everything from transportation to food to “special activities” at a cost of about 5,400 dollars (3,900 euros) per person.

The shutters over the clear roof are retractable and allow for natural light to pour into the space.

Ceilings are both low and high, depending on the retraction of the roof and on which part of the room you’re in.

The GTA Spano was officially launched by GTA Motor company in Valencia last week, along with photos and details marking the release of the first Spanish supercar.

The GTA Spano is equipped with a longitudinal positioned V10 engine capable of outputting 780 horsepower and 920 nm of torque that helps the car reach a top speed of 350 Km/h offering an estimated 0 to 100 Km/h sprint time of less than 3 seconds.

The powerful V10 sends its juice through a 7-speed sequential-manual gearbox, but an automatic alternative will also be available.
