The phrase “made in China,” once anathema to luxury brands for its suggestion of counterfeiting, is acquiring new meaning in the context of professional education.
Beginning in September of 2011, Skema Business School , which is among the largest of France’s Grandes Écoles, will offer the degree of master of science in luxury and fashion management at its Suzhou campus in China.
The yearlong program includes a compulsory three-month internship at an Asia-based firm and is designed to combine French managerial experience with China’s tradition of fine craftsmanship with valuable materials like silk and porcelain.

A 18th-century Chinese vase discovered during a routine clear-out of a bungalow in northwest London has sold at auction for a record £53m (85 million dollars).
The 16-inch Qianlong porcelain vase is understood to have been bought by a private buyer from China in the sale Thursday at a small London auction house.
The item has made the brother and sister who inherited the vase following its discovery in their parents’ north London suburban home instant multi-millionaires.

Lacoste invited Chinese porcelain artist Li Xiaofeng to create two different polos for their Holiday 2010 Collector’s Series.
Li is a muralist-turned-sculptor who uses shards of broken porcelain recovered from ancient archeological digs to create armor-esque clothing sculptures.
Described as “Post-Orientalism,” the artist’s collaged artifacts often take the form of traditional Chinese dresses, jackets, neckties, and now, a Lacoste Polo.
The printed polo is created from photographs of blue and white porcelain shards with lotus and children designs from the Kangxi Period of the Qing Dynasty.
