4 Exotic Cars at Daytona: Charity Drive

Ever wanted to race around a world famous track, have an evening with Hollywood celebs and A-listers, and do a car show all for children’s charity? I had the privilege to attend such an event. Celebration Exotic Car Festival in Florida, gives individuals with exotic cars the opportunity to spend two days on Daytona International Speedway driving the infamous 24-hour circuit. Afterwards we headed to an amazing 5-star wine and dinner cooked by Wolfgang Puck himself.

Of course, to close the fun few days, there was a car show that Make a Wish Foundation had some Wish Kids attend. I’m sure you are all want to know more about the details of the cars well, we had cars such as Pagani Huayra, Bugatti, McLaren P1, Vipers, Ferraris of your calling, along with some race cars.

During the event I had the chance to drive the new McLaren 570s which I won’t go into much as I did a story on the McLaren P1 last month but what a fast, fun, and light little car. I also had the opportunity to drive the brand new Viper ACR Xtreme. This car is pretty much a race car that is street legal. It can produce roughly 800kg of downforce and 650bhp. This thing is quick!

All American muscle with a lot of downforce, the car is a blast and brings me back to what it’s like to be in a real GT race car. The car has set production car track records everywhere it goes. The interior is full of carbon fiber and alcantara and has a great short shift manual 6 speed transmission. I also had the opportunity to take out one of the latest cars out there, the Porsche GT4. This was a fun and tactile machine.

Definitely a great car for the track, but in my opinion, a little underpowered. I think this is probably because of its bigger brother that always has the stage – the Porsche GT3 RS. Give this car 100 more bhp and I think you would have one of the fastest cars on the track. The feedback from the steering was amazing and the balance was on point.

I didn’t get the chance to drive the Pagani Huayra, but that car is a work of art as you can see from the photos. I wouldn’t consider it a track car, but more an investment and a beautiful piece of art. Everything about it was beautiful and over the top.

Each year the event has grown tremendously and helped raised over $1 million for children’s charities. Stars from Orange County Choppers, Happy Days, Star Wars cast members have attended, with next year’s special guest to include Mr. Jay Leno. If you ever are in the Central Florida area in early April, be sure to make this an event you attend, as it’s not only for an amazing cause, but also one you will never forget.

Turin Debut for Mazzanti Evantra Millecavalli

Even in the usually low-key Turin motorshow (running from June 8-12), there is still something that’s worth a look. The Mazzanti Evantra Millecavalli promises to be the most powerful street-legal car ever built in Italy, with a total output of 1000hp all channeled from a turbocharged V8 powerplant. The boutique supercar builder will limit the release to just 25 hand-built examples with an expected price tag of over €1 million, making it a direct competitor to Pagani and Koenigsegg.

“In order to create this extreme Hypercar, we applied technologies coming from motorsport that no one else has ever used on a street-legal car before,” said Luca Mazzanti, company founder. These probably includes the twin-turbo chargers, which will ramp up the ride to a top-speed of 400km/h, as well as boosting up a 0-100km/h acceleration to 2.7 seconds. Also involved in ensuring its capabilities are the active aerodynamics to direct air over the rear wing plus larger inlets for cooling and even a roof-mounted airscoop.

Mazzanti has already quite the street cred in the world of boutique automakers, despite starting out just 15 years ago. The Evantra model that the Millecavalli is based on is hand-built to order and production is limited to five examples a year. The standard car has 715hp on tap and is capable of going from 0-100km/h in 3 seconds. Who knows what level of work was needed to push it to the next level? “When the performance is so important, nothing is left to chance, but each element is the result of the meticulous work of people with great expertise and a true passion” noted Mazzanti.

In other words, lovers of the loud and fast will have another model to salivate over – at least until the next speed-demon comes into view.

Pagani Elevates Huayra to BC Levels

Why simply produce a rare hypercar when you can have an even rarer production run of said rare hypercar? Our guess is that Pagani was thinking exactly that when deciding to build the Huayra BC — a very special and very limited production run of the fully sold out Huayra. Those familiar with the extended run of the Zonda will be completely unsurprised by this news. Indeed, we started thinking that the brand name was Pagani Zonda!

The Italian hypercar firm – still just called Pagani – promises to deliver a car that is as remarkable as a Ferrari or Porsche sans the hybrid trickery — now that is some serious shade. The current vanilla Huayra has a six-liter V12 twin turbocharged Mercedes-AMG engine that can demolish the 100 km/h mark in three seconds. With 720 horsepower, and a top speed of 200 mph (320 km/h), we do understand why this is not simply super but hyper. At a cool million pounds, the exterior of the car is woven from a combination of titanium and carbon fiber (for an excellent power-to-weight ratio) while the interior boasts intricate leather and metalwork.

The new production is dedicated to multimillionaire Benny Caiola who enabled the firm to achieve success when he could have invested in a competitor. As such, Pagani is dedicating what promises to be their fastest, most extreme and most exclusive vehicle, to his memory. Caiola was reportedly Pagani’s first customer so the connections are powerful here. The Huayra BC (no prizes for guessing what that stands for), of which only 20 will be built, is available if you have £2.35 million to spare. The update promises to deliver somewhere between 740 to 800 horsepower bringing you to 100km in slightly under 3 seconds. Given that the car uses the same powerplant, the improvement in speed can be mostly attributed to the lighter package Pagani has deployed here.

But that’s just the start; although the new car and the existing Huayra look almost identical, save for the large rear spoiler, Pagani claims that every external panel has been redesigned to cut weight, aid downforce or improve aerodynamics. It is also why the suspension components have been made from aluminum alloys and why the usually opulent interior has been slightly pared back, to boost the car’s power to weight ratio and its ability to continue slicing through the air as acceleration increases.

The result is a car that should perform on the road and on the track but, sadly one that will most likely be put into storage the moment it is delivered. Even sadder for you, dear reader, is that all 20 models are reportedly sold out. Take heart though because the Geneva Motor Show will also see the debut of the roadster version of the Huayra BC.
