Thailand’s capital Bangkok has been named the world’s best city by influential US travel magazine Travel + Leisure.
Announced as part of its World’s Best 2011 Awards issue to be published July 22, the prestigious title was awarded based on the votes of thousands of Travel + Leisure readers who voted for cities around the world.
It is the second year in a row that Bangkok has been named in the top spot, despite a period of civil unrest last year which did considerable damage to Thailand’s international reputation as a tourism haven.

The World Travel Awards, an organization tasked with selecting some of the world’s best travel experiences, has launched a luxury magazine to share its knowledge.
The organization officially launched this week’s Best in Travel online and as an Android app March 24, focusing on “the world’s most glamorous travel experiences.”
Unlike competitors such as Conde Nast Traveler and Wanderlust, it won’t be available on newsstands — the publisher says it reflects a shift from print to web as a source of travel information — but that’s led to some compelling features.

A new luxury magazine, titled Exhibition, will be hitting newstands worldwide on January 25. The mission of Exhibition is to showcase one particular object or product in-depth for its single edition out yearly.
The first theme for the glossy magazine’s debut edition is lipstick. “The lipstick is a commercial object yet full of symbols and symbolism”.
“It is iconic, timeless, intimate and generates plenty of fantasies,” Exhibition editor in chief Jean-Christophe Husson told Women’s Wear Daily.

Lady Gaga, France’s First Lady Carla Bruni and Spanish actor Javier Bardem were chosen by Vanity Fair magazine as among the world’s best dressed people.
In its September edition released Tuesday, the monthly also mentioned actresses Diane Kruger, Carey Mulligan, Princess Maria of Denmark and US First Lady Michelle Obama in its list of 45 persons.
Samantha Cameron, wife of the British prime minister, also made the cut along with Martin Scorcese, NBC news anchor Brian Williams and the Duchess of Alba.

Austrian Airlines has topped a list of the best business class in-flight wines from US-based Global Traveler magazine.
It beat Qatar Airways by only 0.28 of a point to take the award, which the magazine said “was not dependent on one or two high-scoring blockbusters pulling the rest of its wines into the winner’s corner.”
Instead, the wines selected by Austrian’s 55 sommeliers scored consistantly highly across all categories, with its Champagne, both its white wines and one red wine all placed in the top ten lists for their respective categories.
