Saskia de Brauw for Karl Lagerfeld eyewear campaign

In the run-up to the opening of his second concept store in Paris, Karl Lagerfeld is releasing new teasers. A making-of for his eyewear campaign with model Saskia de Brauw is already available online.

The stunning Dutch model renowned for her androgynous style and famous Spanish model Jon Kortajarena were chosen for the new Karl Lagerfeld eyewear campaign.

This teaser reveals a few creations from the new eyewear collection — in particular, two rectangular frames. Saskia de Brauw is also seen wearing round sunglasses.

Both models have already featured in spring 2013 Karl Lagerfeld campaigns. Saskia de Brauw has already appeared in campaigns for Lanvin, Fendi, Prada, Giorgio ArmaniSaint Laurent just this year.

Fendi and Karl Lagerfeld stage photo exhibition

Fontani di Trevi

The creative director of Italian luxury label Fendi will oversee an exhibition of his photographs featuring some of Rome’s most beautiful fountains.

Lagerfeld was in Rome earlier this year for the announcement that Fendi would be restoring the city’s historic Trevi fountains.

Lagerfeld has obviously found real inspiration in the project as the latest news from Fendi is that the brand has worked with the photographer and designer to document the fountains for an exciting new project.

Fendi will stage an elaborate and free public exhibition of Lagerfeld’s photos in Paris during the city’s haute couture presentations this summer.

Titled “The Glory of Water,” the photos will be housed in a series of dark domes erected on the banks of the Seine open from July 4 to 14, which will also coincide with the opening of Fendi’s new Avenue Montaigne flagship store.

Fine art and photography publisher Steidl will also produce a cloth-bound 120-page volume collecting together the photos.

Porsche Design announce the Gold BlackBerry P’9981

Porsche Design P9981 Gold

A limited edition 24-carat gold version of the Porsche Design BlackBerry P9981 will be launching in June, BlackBerry has revealed.

Just 25 examples of the gold-plated, leather-bound P’9981 Gold smartphone will ever be created, and each one carries a solid gold plaque on its rear, engraved with its serial number and its all-important 2AA prefix code.

This code forms part of the handset’s PIN and informs other BlackBerry users that they are communicating with a P’9981 owner.

The phone’s chassis is milled from stainless steel before being veneered in gold. Like previous Porsche-inspired BlackBerrys, the design is much more angular and minimalist in its appearance than a standard phone, although the gold aspect is far from minimalist.

Underneath the layers of gold and stainless steel is a BlackBerry Bold 9900 with a 1.2GHz processor and 8GB of RAM (expandable in multiples of 16GB via microSD slot), which together run BlackBerry’s BB7 operating system.

Making it, in tech terms, inferior to BlackBerry’s current non-gold QWERTY keyboard flagship the Q10, which boasts a 3.1-inch HD touch screen, a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 2GB of RAM and comes with the latest, optimized version of BlackBerry’s operating system, BB10, preinstalled.

The Porsche handset will go on sale for £1,250 ($1,890) directly via the brand’s website and at assorted Porsche Design boutiques around the world from June.

WATCH: Keira Knightley as Coco Chanel

chanel film Once Upon A Time

“Once Upon a Time” celebrates the founding of the famous Parisian luxury label’s first store exactly a century ago.

Starring recently married Chanel favorite Keira Knightley, the 18-minute long film was directed by the brand’s creative director Karl Lagerfeld, and was unveiled as the brand showed the latest Cruise collection in Singapore on May 9.

Featuring appearances from some of fashion’s biggest names (and Lagerfeld’s favorite stars), the film explores the story of Gabrielle ‘Coco’ Chanel’s first shop, established in 1913 in the French seaside town of Deauville as well as her relationship with the shop’s financier, and Coco’s lover, Arthur ‘Boy’ Capel.

Runway model Lindsey Wixson plays apparently fussy shopper Miss Wonderbilt, who ends up buying up all of the collection, alongside appearances from 1980s favourite Tallulah Harlech and current Chanel stars Saskia de Brauw and Ashleigh Good.

No newcomer to the world of Chanel, young Hudson has already walked in shows for the brand (it might help that his godfather is none other than Mr Lagerfeld himself).

Karl Lagerfeld’s Age Finally Revealed By Designer

Karl Lagerfeld Little Black Jacket

He threw a 70th birthday party in 2008 and a 79th four years later, so fashion followers might be forgiven a little scepticism following Karl Lagerfeld‘s latest pronouncement on the subject of his age.

Always a dapper figure in sharply tailored suits, high collared shirts and trademark ponytail and dark glasses, the legendary German couturier says he is in fact 77.

In an interview with magazine Paris Match, Lagerfeld said he was born in 1935 but that his mother for unknown reasons changed his date of birth on the official documentation resulting in the confusion.

“My mother changed the date. It was easier to make a 3 or an 8,” he said without elaborating. “I found this out after her death and I don’t know why she did it,” he added.

The Paris-based designer was born Karl Lagerfeldt in Hamburg but later dropped the final ‘t’ for commercial reasons. His first collection in 1958 was shown under the name Roland Karl.

Lagerfeld’s Wikipedia page now states that he was born on September 10, 1935.

Karl Lagerfeld To Open Store in Amsterdam

After launching his first concept store in Paris this spring, the German designer is set to open his second boutique, packed with cutting-edge digital technology, in the Dutch city of Amsterdam.

Karl Lagerfeld‘s new store is aiming to align the brand’s modern design with a host of digital treats. Featuring men’s and women’s ready‐to‐wear, footwear, eyewear, and accessories, the store will also be home to a specially curated selection of Lagerfeld’s collaborations, objets d’arts, and gift ideas.

Lagerfeld isn’t shy about mixing emerging tech, social media and fashion; even his cat Choupette has her own Twitter account, so it comes as no surprise that the new store will feature iPad minis on the clothes rails to let customers browse the collection.

More iPads will be available with a special ‘digital guestbook’ to let them surf the web, take photos in the store, and even leave personal messages for the designer.

Fitting booths will also be kitted out with touch screens which will allow shoppers to photograph their own look and apply a set of ‘Karl-inspired’ filters, before sharing the images via FB, Twitter and email.

Located in the hip 9 Straatjes (‘9 streets’) area of the Jordaan district, and set to open early May, Karl Lagerfeld’s second concept store is part of a global roll-out which will see the fashion brand appearing in additional European locations throughout 2013, before expanding into Asia.

German-born Paris-based designer Karl Lagerfeld is design chief of his namesake label, as well as creative director at luxury brand Chanel and Italian label Fendi.

Fendi ‘Peplum People’ Film by Karl Lagerfeld

German designer Karl Lagerfeld has stepped behind the camera to shoot “Peplum People,” a Spring-Summer 2013 video for Italian brand Fendi.

Titled “Peplum People,” the film was produced on the set of the brand’s latest print advertising shoot. Supermodels Kati Nescher and Saskia de Brauw, looking slick in sunglasses and gelled hair, trot around town in the brand’s summer styles.

A pair of gladiator-outfit-clad male models, Joseph Dolce and Willy Cartier, strip off for some splash-about fun in the pool before the foursome unite for an evening out.

The boys are dressed up in Fendi tuxedos while Nescher and de Brauw show off the brand’s golden red carpet outfits.
