BMW will launch a mid-range MPV aimed at larger families in 2015, to complete its ‘Project i’ series of upcoming electric vehicles.
Although the first ‘i’ model — the i3 — hasn’t even hit the roads yet, BMW executives are already planning to augment the range.
Essentially, the proposed i5 is designed to compete with models such as the recently launched Toyota Prius V, an enlarged version of the hybrid bestseller which can seat up to seven passengers and offers plenty of cabin space.

Electric car maker Tesla has announced a special edition model of its Roadster sports car, as it prepares for the debut of its new Model S (pictured above).
The brand, which created the world’s first high-performance electric car in the Roadster, will sell just 15 of the Final Edition Roadster models.
Although the specifications of the model haven’t been changed, it is finished in distinctive Atomic Red paint, dark stripes and exclusive anthracite aluminium wheels.

Infiniti is to debut inductive charging on its forthcoming electric vehicle model, according to reports.
The Nissan-owned luxury manufacturer is set to launch its own electric vehicle in 2014, to offer a high-class counterpoint to the pioneering Nissan Leaf.
In an industry-first, it looks like that model will be able to charge wirelessly using ‘inductive’ technology, reports Popular Mechanics.

Luxury car maker Rolls-Royce has developed its first electric-powered vehicle, that goes up to 125 miles fully charged.
The one-off Phantom 102EX has been touring the globe to gauge the reactions of Rolls-Royce owners and potential customers to a fully electric-powered car.
The 6.75-liter V-12 was replaced by a massive 71-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery housed within the aluminum spaceframe.

Eco-friendly automaker Fisker has launched sales of its Karma sedan, after receiving certification from US authorities.
The Karma Sedan, a plug-in hybrid vehicle powered by both a battery and gasoline engine, is now on sale through its US dealer network.
The model was given a 32-mile (51km) all-electric range by the US Environmental Protection Agency, three miles (five kilometers) under that of the Chevrolet Volt, a similar range-extended vehicle which sells for $39,145.

Legendary Formula 1 designer Gordon Murray has unveiled a new prototype electric sports car to join his fold of futuristic small vehicle designs.
The TEEWAVE AR1 was designed in collaboration with Toray Industries and is designed partially as proof of concept for a production mechanism that can see a car processed in less than ten minutes.
Constructed from carbon fiber, the AR1 is remarkably light, weighing in at just 850 kilograms. That makes it considerably lighter than the Tesla Roadster.
