German automakers BMW and Mercedes-Benz have released details on the electric scooter concepts they plan to unveil at the Paris Motor Show next week.
The scooters, which will be presented by BMW and Mercedes-Benz under the MINI and Smart brands respectively, are hints at the direction both companies could take with electric mobility in the future.
MINI’s Scooter E effort is based on the current production MINI cars, with 11-inch wheels and a “powerful and robust appearance,” which, combined with the large, round front light and radiator grill, evokes the MINI four wheelers. Continue reading →
Sales of luxury cars produced by German marque Mercedes-Benz surged by 69 percent in India during the first six months of 2010.
The figures are a sign of the growing market for luxury car brands in India, where overall passenger sales are expected to grow by 12-13 percent this year by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers.
The luxury market, although only accounting for a tiny proportion of overall sales, is rapidly gaining traction with Indians seeing a rise in income levels, thanks in part to foreign automakers making more vehicles easily accessible in the country. Continue reading →

Talk about pimping your ride. US pop artist Jeff Koons’ latest work is a BMW M3 GT2 decorated with exploding, multi-colored rays.
Unveiled by Koons in New York on Tuesday, the car will compete this June at the Le Mans 24 Hours road race in France.
