WOW: Fall Issue Out On Stands

WOW Fall issue takes you through the world of complications in watchmaking.

Oct 20, 2016 | By Staff Writer

The WOW Fall Issue is out now on newsstands in Singapore and the focus returns once again to the technical side of watchmaking. On the cover is the Bulgari Octo Ultranero Finissimo Skeleton, which shows off the maison’s expertise in skeletonisation – a skill melding art and science – in an ultrathin calibre no less.

A trio of technical reads anchor this issue, beginning with a look at how watchmakers double down in movement design to achieve performance improvements. More is better here, from twin balance assemblies to stacked hairsprings. The second feature examines the mechanics and reasons behind some seemingly redundant complications that are still around today, such as the sidereal time display, while the final one looks into recent improvements in escapement technology, and what they mean for chronometry and power management.

Fancy some eye candy? Delve into an exclusive photospread showcasing Patek Philippe’s minute repeaters, pair it with a second one featuring watches with complex openworked dials, and top things off with a look at some gorgeous high complications. Then kick back with us as we talk shop with a trio of CEOs: Corum’s Davide Traxler, Glashütte Original’s Yann Gamard, and Seiko’s Shinji Hattori.

Managing Editor of WOW, Celine Yap, says, “Talk of complications and other such technical matters may intimidate, but at WOW we strive to make such knowledge accessible to our readers, regardless of their familiarity with the subject at hand. There’s no need to shy away from or gloss over these topics – we present them as they are. This remains our unique proposition, and explain WOW’s enduring popularity.”

Olivier Burlot, CEO and Publisher, added, “WOW turns 15 this year, and this issue is proof that there’s no replacement for a well distributed magazine with excellent content that serves its readers. I look forward to celebrating the anniversary at the WOW Party taking place at Raffles Marina on 20 October.”
