If there’s one person who understands how to do outstanding glamour, it would be Balmain’s Olivier Rousteing. You can see this from the way he spruced up the attire for star couple Kanye West and Kim Kardashian at this year’s Met Gala with metallic over-embellishment (that was in-line with the theme this year). Now he’s bringing this expertise to the rough and tumble sport of football, by working with Nike for an all new vision of sportswear. The Football Nouveau collection puts together black and gold for attire with a fiendishly sleek silhouette.

“Fashion is usually about the catwalk and the glamour, but with Nike it was about performance and the athletes,” noted Rousteing. He aimed to find a reinterpretation and integration of both worlds, eventually choosing black because it was “timeless”, and gold because it was about “victory”.

Among those pieces reinterpreted include some of Nike’s esteemed shoes, such as the Free Hypervenom 2, the Roshe Tiempo VI, Footscape Magista, and the Free Mercurial Flyknit. Rousteing has also touched up the N98 Jacket and Nike’s football top. “Olivier is meticulous about the details, with a passion for finding clever ways to embellish existing structures,” said NikeLab Senior Footwear Innovation Design Director Nate Jobe. All this comes in the form of the exquisite embroidery done to add the gold into the various designs.

Rousteing first teased the collaboration on his Instagram here, before posting up the rest of the campaign shots. You can also check out Nike’s website for what they have on offer.
