3 Bold Summer 2016 Lip Trends

With each new season comes a new beauty trend to look up to and summer is no different with the bold lips leading the way.

We can no longer say that summer is just around the corner because, well, look at your calendar. In fact it practically hit us all straight on without hesitation and will leave us before we figure it all out. Embracing the heat certainly doesn’t mean skimping on those eye-catching pouts; instead we bring you three ways to do more than just pay lip service to the season.

From Rihanna X Puma to Vivienne Westwood and even Dior, the almost black lips were seen all over the runways this fall. Showing that beauty looks on the ramp can be brought to the red carpets, Katy Perry flaunted her Covergirl collaboration at the MET Ball with Perry Panther. Of course, no beauty list these days is complete without new beauty mogul-in-waiting, Kylie Jenner herself. Her brand Kylie cosmetics recently unveiled a black liquid lip color ‘Dead of Knight’. Thankfully, it looks better than it reads. Those feeling less adventurous (or more cerebral) can opt instead for a navy blue hue ‘Freedom’ from the same range.

While Jenner expands her empire and included three new lip colors including a strawberry matte hue called Kristen, she isn’t the only star getting lippy. Joining her in the league of fruity lip colors is Gwen Stefani who has been known for her bold red lips. Switching up her beauty look, the singer-songwriter has started sporting softer cherry pink hues. One major brand that has walked this route is none other than Dolce & Gabbana with its ‘Summer in Italy’ collection that featured a revamped Classic Cream Lipstick in a deep raspberry hue called Cyclamen.

Summer may not be the season you would associate lip-gloss with, but the lip trend is currently seeing a major revival. Model Hailey Baldwin showed off this trend with a natural looking shimmery taupe shade while Blake Lively sported pink gloss for some extra sweetness. Major beauty brands such as Chanel showcased fun lilacs, sophisticated nudes (think Botticelli) and preppy pinks with its new ‘Lèvres Scintillantes’ lip-glosses. MAC showcased bold shades in its Good Luck Trolls beauty collection with a range of shiny ‘Lipglasses’, glittery ‘Bubble Butt’ , magenta ‘Twerkquoise’ sky blue as well as ‘Glitter Grunge that featured berry tones. And yes, the reign of the utterly ridiculous names in beauty continues, no matter the season.
