Cristiano Ronaldo buys $700k Rolls-Royce

Cristiano Ronaldo - the man who brought you such comments as “The possibilities of me going to Real Madrid are great,” and “I’ve said a million times that I’d love to play in Spain” - has celebrated his decision to stay at Manchester United by splashing out on a £350,000 ($700,000) Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe.

The Portuguese midfielder bought the Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe from Doncaster-based luxury car dealer Liquid 45. He gave instructions for it to be “fully loaded,” a trade term for all the added extras.

Cristiano, 23, also owns an Aston Martin, a BMW 6 Series, a Bentley Continental and a Ferrari. As a matter of fact, the Phantom will replace his £140,000 Bentley Continental.

It’s also believed Ronaldo was so impressed with the Bugatti Veyron he raced in a Nike commercial he put his name down on the waiting list for the £830,000 ($1.66M) hypercar (check out our “video of the week” on the right side)

No worries, The Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe’s £350,000 pricetag ($700,000) wouldn’t have deterred the the 23-year-old player star who is thought to earn around £130,000 per week ($260,000).

Ronaldo’s latest extravagance is likely to intensify the car park war going on at Manchester United where multi-millionaire footballers such as Rio Ferdinand and Wayne Rooney are continuously trying to outdo each other with their choice of motor.

Sultan of Brunei's Rolls Royce

This Rolls Royce Phantom Coupe is reported to be owned by the Sultan of Brunei’s family.

The Sultan has a sizable private fortune derived from his total control over the national economy's finances and the appropriation of the state's sizeable oil revenues to bankroll his extravagant lifestyle. The Sultan's fortunes, in line with oil prices, have fluctuated since an estimated high of $55.63 billion in 1997, which made him the richest man in the world at the time. (wikipedia)

Sultan of Brunei’s family is reported to own around 5000 vehicles that are all logged into a central computer system. If not driven by immediate members of the family, then they are used by government officials and members of the royal household.

Rolls-Royce Pininfarina Hyperion

Automotive News reports that Pininfarina is working on a new privately-commissioned one-off based on the Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe.
Coachbuilding for individual clients is becoming an important part of Pininfarina's business, as automakers worldwide are outsourcing to independent carrozzerias less than they used to

Ordered by an as-yet unnamed collector, the vehicle will bear the name Hyperion from ancient Greek mythology. Built from a Phantom Drophead Coupé, the Hyperion seems to be much shorter than the production model. Although the front fascia seems to be similar to the Phantom, the car sports a host of new character lines aft of the A-pillars.

Pininfarina claims the Hyperion is inspired by pre-war Rolls-Royces; while the lines do help connect the car to its history, many of the same lines recall more modern vehicles. The kink just below the window line, rising up as it hits the rear fender, evokes memories of the Silver Wraith and Silver Cloud, both products of the 1950s.

Other details on the Rolls Royce Drophead Coupe special haven't yet emerged, but expect to see the Hyperion in full at the Pebble Beach Concourse d'Elegance that opens on August 17.

2009 Rolls-Royce Phantom Coupe revealed

Rolls-Royce does things differently.

Doors open backwards, hood ornaments are powered, engine displacement is measured to two decimal places, and headliners are designed to mimic the night sky.

Even the company's product launches are unique. At the 2008 Geneva show, Rolls-Royce will formally announce the Phantom Coupe. This comes over a year after the Phantom Drophead Coupe was launched.

This is not your ordinary coupe/convertible timeline. The fixed-head Phantom is expected to be much like its convertible precursor. The same 6.75-liter V-12 sits under the long hood, making a familiar 453 hp and 532 lb-ft of torque. The Coupe can be equipped with the starlight headliner seen on the 101EX concept and also available in the four-door Phantom.

Ingress and egress are made possible by rear-hinged, powered doors that Phantom owners are used to.Rolls says the new two-door will be the most driver-oriented of the Phantom line.

Torsional stiffness is up, as is expected, compared to the droptop. The transmission has a new sport mode that holds shifts longer. Changes to the suspension firm up the ride and aim to reduce body roll. Acceleration from 0 to 60 mph is quicker by one tenth at 5.6 seconds.

Pricing has not yet been announced but we expect it to be similar to that of the Drophead, which
starts at $412,000. Production of the Phantom Coupe will begin in the summer of 2008.

Rolls Royce Phantom by EDAG

rredag.jpg

Because we all know that the rich can never be too comfortable, EDAG set about to improve the ergonomics of the stately Phantom. Their solution was to develop and articulated roof over the rear seat area so that passengers could get in and out of the car more easily.

By simply pressing a button, the driver or passenger can activate the specially developed electronic controls, and raise the hydraulically powered roof segment with practically no sound whatsoever.
