
Copenhagen restaurant Noma, widely regarded as among the world’s top gastronomic establishments, has launched a city guide.
The restaurant has created a guidebook to the Danish capital in a tie-up with travel booking site Momondo, which is also based in the city.
The guide is written by Noma’s international staff and features reviews of their favorite places in the city, with the restaurant’s manager Peter Kreiner saying that the book contains “angles that may even surprise a native.”


The biggest restaurant in the UK opened its doors this week with a capacity of feeding a small army of 2,100 diners a night.
Bristol’s harborside restaurant Za Za Bazaar spans 30,000 square feet (2,790 square meters) and two floors, and serves up an all-you-can-eat buffet that includes Chinese, Japanese, Indian, Italian and traditional British fare.
Like a giant food court, diners take in a lay of the land, sidle up to different sections, choose their ingredients and watch as one of 36 chefs cook their meal.


Tokyo has now more Michelin three star restaurants than Paris, according to the latest edition of the gastronomical guide.
Japan as a whole also beats France, with 32 establishments granted the maximum grade, against 25 in the guide’s home country. Paris has just 10 three star eateries.
Of Tokyo’s 160,000 restaurants, 16 were awarded top marks, 52 got two stars and 179 were deemed worthy of one star by the authors of the Red Guide.


Air Canada and Virgin America have topped other North American airlines in a health ranking of on-board food.
According to DietDetective, which runs an annual survey examining the nutritional values of the food served to economy class passengers flying domestic, five-star-rated Air Canada “cares about its passengers’ health, that’s for sure.”
Virgin America was described as the best-improved airline, also being awarded five stars, with DietDetective’s Dr Charles Stuart Platkin saying that the calories and nutrient density of its on-board snacks had improved since last year.


Poaching and illegal trade in sturgeon caviar persist in Romania and Bulgaria, posing a serious risk to the highly threatened species of fish, WWF warned Monday.
A total of 52.5 kilos (115.7 pounds) of illegal caviar, retailing for upwards of 6,000 euros ($8,200) per kilo, originating in the two countries was reported by European Union member states between 2000 and 2009, the report said.
“The real volume of illegal trade is likely to be considerably higher. Any illegal trade poses an unacceptable risk to these highly threatened species.”


Germany now ranks second behind France as the European country with the most three-starred eateries, after Michelin inspectors handed out a third star to a contemporary restaurant that centers its cuisine on the aromatics of food.
In the 2012 edition of the Michelin Guide Germany, La Vie, in Osnabrück has become the ninth restaurant to earn the highest ranking possible from the red book.
Inspectors also promoted 10 new restaurants this round, to give the country a total of 32 two-starred establishments.
