A mobile pop-up restaurant designed to appear semi-transparent from the outside has launched in London, providing diners with a bird’s eye view of the Thames and Westminster from atop the Royal Festival Hall.

After runs in Brussels and Milan, steel and glass restaurant The Cube by Electrolux has set up tent in London this summer, where it’s been mounted on the rooftop of the music hall. The installation comes in time for the summer Olympics.

Cooking in the mobile restaurant pavilion will be Michelin-starred British chefs like Sat Bains, Jonray and Peter Sanchez, Scottish Michelin chef Tom Kitchin, and Claude Bosi and Daniel Clifford, winners of Ramsay’s Best Restaurant 2010.

Guests will be served a five-course menu that uses locally-sourced ingredients.

The restaurant seats 18 diners, who are able to watch as their meal is prepared in an open-concept kitchen.

Designed by Italian architects Park Associati, the laser-cut, aluminum walls give the impression of steel mesh, while the glass enclosure offers diners peep-views of their surroundings.

Meals are priced at £175 for lunch, and £215  for dinner Monday to Sunday and runs until September 30. For more info, visit www.electrolux.co.uk.

Meanwhile, Dinner in the Sky is another experience that takes fine dining to new heights. Like a fun-fair attraction, guests are strapped into a mobile table that suspends diners 50 m in the air.

The event has been hosted in 30 countries around the world, including France, Belgium, Monaco, Canada, the US, Israel, Brazil and Russia, at famous landmarks.
