Women-only restaurants

From Dubai to Las Vegas, London and Zhengzhou, China, restaurants catering to a female-only clientele are becoming increasingly popular the world over.

The latest eatery to cater to the fair sex is set to open next month in London’s Soho area. According to The London Evening Standard, Sofakingcool on Frith Street will reopen as KC’z Bar on February 1 as a women’s-only restaurant.

Though details are sparse, the manager told the paper that the bar isn’t about banning men, but about “putting what women want first” and about networking.

Meanwhile, as The Standard points out, London is now home to a handful of female-oriented restaurants including The Sorority Club, STK, an American steak chain developed for the ladies, and women’s beer-tasting club Dea Latis.

As reported this fall by Relaxnews, “Desperate Housewives” actress Eva Longoria also opened a steakhouse designed specifically to cater to female diners called SHe in Las Vegas. The restaurant held its grand opening New Year’s Eve. Inspired by the roaring 1920s, the former Eve Nightclub and Beso restaurant includes a central dance floor and catwalk and is bedecked in mirrors and crystals.

A restaurant in Zhengzhou, China, was also built to put female diners at ease with an admission policy that only allows male customers to enter if they’re accompanied by a woman.

And in Saudi Arabia, a businesswoman opened a women’s-only eatery last year so that female diners could enjoy a peaceful meal away from the harassment of police cracking down on gender-mixing, reports Emirates247.
