The new H&M Shop that just opened in Barcelona was entirely designed by Estudio Mariscal.

The shop is found in the most commercial street of Barcelona, Portal de l’Àngel, in the building which was, until recently, the head office of the company Catalana de Gas.

They respected the building’s original architecture which is a vestige of the bourgeois architecture from the end of the 19th century, and is the work of Domènech Estapà, an architect who was opposed to the Modernista movement and more inclined towards a neo-classical style.

Estudio Mariscal used pieces of puzzles to achieve an open design, which creates disparate situations that resolve, invade or colonise each corner of the space.

To create furniture that responds to this modular need, the used of metal that is superimposed make a contrasts with the original wood and stone.

The interior has a second neutral skin in black and white over the old one, creating a new image without blurring the original, that helps showing H&M collections in the best possible way.

The dome and the staircase were restored and emphasised with an aluminum sculpture in the shape of a cone.

In addition to the interior and furniture design, Estudio Mariscal was responsible for the lighting and its image and communication. Via Archdaily CoolBoom
