One thousand horsepower, a 0-60mph time of under three seconds, and a top speed of 200 mph. A car boasting all these specs that’s all-electric – really? These are the projected specifications of the FFZERO1, the concept electric car that Faraday Future teased the world with when they declared that it might not be an actual reality. We talked (and gawked) about it when it captured the Vegas Consumers Electronics Show by storm (so revolutionary and unrealistic it seemed), but the California-based company may be proving its name soon. Faraday Future has announced that it is joining Formula E (an all-electric race car series) – and it has a real car to its famous name (the company is named for Michael Faraday).

Conceived from a partnership with Dragon Racing (one of 10 teams in the Formula E), meet the FIA Formula E Championship racing car. That’s right, it’s an actual, tangible car that will debut at the start of Formula E’s third season come this October. And in the race series’ fourth season, Faraday Future is looking at supplying their very own bespoke drivetrain components to Dragon Racing.

“Partnering with Dragon Racing allows us to further showcase our electric vehicle leadership and technical capabilities in one of the most exciting Formulas in the world. I clearly see Formula E as the right venue to challenge our engineers and technologies in the most extreme performance conditions,” said Nick Sampson, Senior Vice President, Global R&D and Engineering.

It is a far cry from mass-market production, but for a company that has only provided promises so far despite the backing of Chinese holding company LeEco and a production factory worth $1 billion in Nevada, we’re still prepared to take this all at face value.
