Céline Dion’s Florida mansion listed for $72 million

Celine Dion and her husband Rene Angelil have just listed their Jupiter Island, Florida compound for a whopping $72 million via a Canadian realtor.

The location can’t be beat: Jupiter Island is a wealthy enclave of some 800 people north of the Miami area, and it has one of the highest per-capita incomes of any town in the U.S. Dion’s island neighbours include golf legend Tiger Woods and country singer Alan Jackson.

Montreal Realtor Joseph Montanaro, who has the listing, said the house hasn’t been used as much as Dion hoped. He said the asking price is “just about” what it cost to build up the property.

The listing describes the house as a “luxurious Bahamian-inspired estate” with 415 of oceanfront, one main house and five pavilions, including a four-bedroom guest house.

The master suite has a walk-in closet with an automated rack for clothing and an automated carousel for shoes. It has a wraparound terrace and two decks, one with an fireplace and another with a hot tub.

The property also includes an eight-bedroom guesthouse, a tennis house with a simulated golf range, a pool house and a beach house with a sleeping loft and massage room.

There are three pools, one at the rear of the property by the ocean, and two connecting pools at the front that have their own water park, with two slides, a bridge over a lazy river and water gun stations.

The house is being sold “turnkey,” meaning the new owner gets to keep almost all the contents, including furniture, with the exception of Celine’s personal effects, the listing states.

Banyan Tree RAK creates Arabian pearl experience

Banyan Tree Ras Al Khaimah Beach

The Banyan Tree Ras Al Khaimah Beach now offers an original opportunity to guests through its Arabian Pearl Retreat package. Guests who opt for this package are taken by seaplane to a desert pearl farm to learn about the techniques and history of this particularly prestigious form of aquaculture.

While at the farm, guests also take part in a jewelry-making workshop alongside a local jeweler. After choosing their oysters and harvesting two pearls — in the region, these usually measure between 7 and 12mm — participants mount them in a unique piece of jewelry made with 10mg of gold.

The Banyan Tree Ras Al Khaimah Beach is located on a private beach overlooking the Gulf. The hotel includes 32 villa apartments, a luxury spa, and a restaurant bordered by an infinity pool.

The Arabian Pearl Retreat package, which includes transit by seaplane to the pearl farm, is available through February 28, 2014 (€1,945 including one night in the hotel’s Beach Pool Villa).

First photo of the iPhone 5S in ‘champagne’

TechCrunch has published the first photos of the iPhone wearing its new shiny coat. In addition to the traditional black and white, Apple’s next smartphone will reportedly be available in a pale gold color.

In addition to the traditional black and white models, the forthcoming iPhone 5S could also be available in a flashier version, all in gold, according to American tech specialist website TechCrunch.

Apple’s new smartphone will be presented on September 10, most likely alongside a more affordable version of the device, dubbed the iPhone 5C.

According to these rumors, Apple may introduce a new “champagne” color to the iPhone range. The shimmery gold shade is said to be easily obtained by anodizing the smartphone’s aluminum casing.

Well-heeled Apple fans can already purchase iPhones made of solid gold, or even encrusted with diamonds, through brands such as Amosu or Goldgenie, for several thousand euros, but the “champagne” iPhone would present a more affordable alternative for fans of metallic colors.

Readers of TechCrunch commented that an iPhone with a gold case would likely sell particularly well in the Chinese and Indian markets, where the color is popular.

2014 Audi A8 Facelift Rear

Audi A8 2014 officially revealed

Audi A8 2014

A redesigned and revamped version of the Audi A8 is on its way to the Frankfurt Motor Show, the German manufacturer has announced. The luxury sedan has been equipped with a more efficient powertrain, as well as smart technology features for its driving aids and high-beam headlight controls. The new edition of Audi’s flagship car will hit the market in November 2013.

As part of its new look, the A8 has a redesigned rear bumper with two rectangular vents, chrome stripes and black tinted windows. The car’s dimensions remain unchanged, and its body is now made almost entirely of aluminum. The A8 will be available in eight colors, with wheels of all sizes up to 21″.

The LED headlights, now a standard feature, include high-beams with 25 diodes, each of which can be turned on, dimmed or turned off according to driving conditions. Audi’s advanced Matrix LED headlight control system, available as an option, even includes sensors that detect the presence of oncoming cars and dim the high-beams as they approach.

The Matrix technology can even communicate with the navigation system to retrieve predictive route data and adjust the angle and brightness of the headlights just in time.

The Audi A8 will be available with four motors: two fuel injection (ranging from 310 hp to 435 hp) and two diesel (from 258 hp to 385 hp). The manufacturer is touting enhanced performance all around, and the Audi A8 V8 4.0 TFSI now accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds.

Alongside the boost in power, Audi has taken care to enhance efficiency as well. The Audi Cylinder On Demand (COD) system disengages half of the engine’s eight cylinders when they are not needed.

The most efficient motor in the new series is the V6 3.0 TDI Clean Diesel, which consumes 5.9 liters of fuel per 100 km, for CO2 emissions of 155 g/km.

Among the optional driving assistance features available on the A8 is a system that projects important information from the dashboard directly into the driver’s field of vision on the windshield. There is also adaptive cruise control and Audi’s “pre sense plus” system for detecting and avoiding hazards.

The new Audi A8, which will be presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show, will arrive in European dealerships this fall, with prices likely to start around €80,000.

Hugo by Hugo Boss 20th anniversary capsule collection

Red Never Follows

This fall, Hugo Boss is offering an exclusive line of 20 iconic pieces under the name RED NEVER FOL20WS to celebrate the 20th anniversary of its Hugo label.

In 1993, the ready-to-wear brand launched the label under the artistic direction of Peter Littmann. The success of the line propelled Hugo Boss to its leading position among menswear brands.

In honor of the anniversary, Hugo Boss has presented its limited edition “Red Never Follows” line, consisting of 20 signature pieces. The line includes ten items for women, including the “Myas by Hugo” coat, the black “Lalya-L” pumps, and the red “Anselin” blazer, with its square cut.

Among the 10 menswear pieces in the line, designed to illustrate the virility and elegance of “the Hugo Boss man,” the brand offers the traditional black “Adris/Heibo1” suit, the dark red “HUGO 734” jeans, and even a stylish set of headphones with the Hugo Boss logo.

For this prestigious line, Hugo Boss invited 20 international designers to provide their interpretation on the non-conformity and avant-gardism that have characterized the brand over the past two decades.

The “Red Never Follows” line, exhibited at the Saatchi Gallery in London from July 31 to September 1, is making its way to select stores worldwide this fall.

The Range Rover Hybrid will have its world premiere at the Frankfurt Motor Show, ahead of its commercial release early next year.

Hermes Unveils $12,900 Luxury Basketball

Hermes Basketball

After an 18-month renovation, Hermès is reopening its Beverly Hills store on Sept. 4. To commemorate the opening, the brand is rolling out its first-ever basketball for a whopping $12,900.

Only two of the balls have been produced at the special-orders atelier in Paris under Pierre-Alexis Dumas‘ creative direction.

The ball is made of blue calfskin and uses the same hand-stitched technique as Hermes’ Birkin bags.

“It represents the sky, the ocean and all the beautiful pools that are a way of life in L.A. and Southern California,” says Robert Chavez, Hermes U.S. CEO, who says that the exceptional quality of the leather as well as the artisanal craftsmanship account for the ball’s price. Via Hollywoodreporter & Hypebeast.

Beijing International Airport

Chinese are world’s biggest travel spenders

Beijing International Airport

According to the second annual Chinese International Travel Monitor released by Hotels.com, China has now overtaken the US and Germany to become the world’s biggest travel spenders.

The survey was conducted among 3,000 international Chinese travelers and 1,500 hoteliers around the world in June 2013. It found that Chinese travelers spent US$102 billion on international travel in 2012, an increase of 40% from 2012, making them bigger spenders that both Germany and the USA.

In addition, 75 percent of the hoteliers reported that Chinese travelers accounted for up to five percent of their business and 45 percent of hoteliers reported that over the previous year they experienced an upsurge in the number of Chinese guests. The greatest increase in the number of Chinese tourists in terms of area was seen in the Asia-Pacific region.

The survey also found some interesting trends among the Chinese travelers themselves: 62 percent of Chinese travelers reported that they preferred to travel independently, rather than in a group.

Leisure was the primary reason why Chinese were traveling, with 96 percent reporting they did so for leisure, although Chinese travelers did have some complaints.

The biggest issue Chinese travelers had was with the provision of translated materials, such as “welcome literature,” websites and newspapers from hoteliers, with 75 percent of Chinese travelers surveyed stating that this was an area that needed improvement. Language was also an issue among hotel staff, with 42 percent stating that they “would like more Mandarin speaking staff in hotels.”

What’s this Lexus concept car?

Lexus new concept car

Toyota’s premium brand will showcase a new concept car on its stand at the Frankfurt Motor Show. For the time being, Lexus has revealed virtually no details on the car, building suspense before the big event in September. The only image of the new concept car focuses on its LED headlights.

Lexus has more in store for the Frankfurt show, of course, including the European premiere of a new version of its GS 300h hybrid, equipped with a 2.5L motor.

Bentley Launches Capsule Handbag Collection

Bentley handbag collection

Bentley, the British automobile brand that is as synonymous with upscale style as it is with high performance sports cars, has turned its attention to women with a new collection of handbags.

The names of the first two models in the capsule collection set the tone: “The Continental” and “The Barnato.” The first honors Bentley’s signature automobile, first marketed in 1952, while the second is a nod to British aviatrix Diana Barnato, who is also the daughter of the Bentley Boy Woolf Barnato.

For this initial launch, only 160 pieces will be sold. Each model will be available in four colors, with prices ranging between €4,500 and €5,500.

This is not the first time that Bentley has brought its illustrious brand name to other luxury products than cars. The company recently presented a complete interior decoration collection in partnership with Luxury Living Group as well as a precious perfume developed in collaboration with Lalique.

Versace to open Macau luxury hotel

skyline Macau

The Italian luxury brand has signed a deal to open its third ‘Palazzo’ hotel, as part of a new casino resort development in Cotai, Macau.

Versace has partnered with Hong Kong based SJM holdings on the deal, which will see a new five star hotel opening in the Chinese city of Macau. The new location will join the company’s two Palazzo Versace hotels, located in Dubai (where plans for a refrigerated beach sadly had to be scrapped) and on Australia’s Gold Coast.

Macau, which featured in last year’s James Bond blockbuster “Skyfall,” is one of China’s two special administrative regions, alongside Hong Kong. The former Portuguese colony is the only part of the People’s Republic where casinos are permitted, and it’s a lucrative business.

According to Bloomberg, Macau raked in around $38 billion from casinos in 2012 with tourist numbers from mainland China and Hong Kong growing year on year.

Luxury hotels are an increasingly big attraction for fashion brands: Giorgio Armani has two locations in Dubai and Milan, while fellow Italian label Bulgari has three hotels in London, Milan and Bali, restaurants in Japan and a new Shanghai spot set to open up in 2015.

Alexander Wang launches bag with Samsung

alexander wang samsung wallie bag

The New York City based fashion designer worked with the South Korean technology firm on a special new lambskin bag which used the power of the crowd to source the designs.

Alexander Wang channeled the ‘collective inspiration’ of a select group of Samsung smartphone users for his latest collection. Called the ‘Wallie’, the gym sac has a drawstring closure, reinforced leather corners, and a black and gray print on the lambskin finish.

The bag’s abstract print was produced by Wang by combining different images created using Galaxy Note II smartphones by a group of his close friends, stylists, photographers, and others.

“The abstract print really captures the energy of New York City,” the designer explained. “This collaboration is a great example of how technology and style can come together in an unexpected but really meaningful way.”

The bag is available in select locations from this month, and proceeds from the sale of the $550 bag will go towards the Art Start charity, which funds art programs for children and young people.

Gisele

Gisele Bundchen is the highest-paid model

Gisele

Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bunchen has been named the world’s highest-paid model for a seventh successive year. The 33 year old netted an estimated $42 million in the past year, according to Forbes.

Modeling contracts with H&M, Pantene, Oral-B and Sky HDTV and her role as the face of Chanel’s ‘Les Beiges’ cosmetics line have all contributed to this enormous total. The figure dwarfs that of second placed supermodel, Australian Victoria’s Secret star Miranda Kerr, who comes in at just over $7 million.

Impressive as they are, Bündchen’s latest earnings don’t quite match last year’s total of $45 million, which is perhaps accounted for by the time she took off to give birth to her youngest daughter Vivian, her second child with NFL quarterback Tom Brady.

Other notable figures in the list include British star Kate Moss, who is still earning a multimillion-dollar salary from her modeling contracts (including Versace) at the age of 39, and Chinese superstar Liu Wen (aged just 25), who is the first Chinese model to star in a Victoria’s Secret fashion show.

Here’s the top five:

Gisele Bündchen (Brazil) – $42 million

Miranda Kerr (Australia) – $7.2 million

Adriana Lima (Brazil) – $6 million

Kate Moss (UK) – $5.7 million

Liu Wen (China) – $4.3 million

Hong Kong’s rich turn to handbag-backed loans

luxury shopping hong kong

Hong Kong’s ladies-who-lunch are indulging in a smart new trend — cashing in luxury handbags for quickie loans in the Asian style capital.

Luxury purses by brands like Hermès, Louis Vuitton and Gucci can all be used to secure a loan in less than half an hour, with specialist pawnbrokers providing cash at up to 80% of a bag’s value.

Yes Lady Finance Co. offers the first specialized loans against pricey purses in Hong Kong, a city with around 200 licensed pawnbrokers and nearly a thousand shadier backstreet operations.

The company’s “brand name handbag loan” provides cash in half an hour in exchange for genuine luxury bags from big name brands. Customers then have to pay off their loan at 4% monthly interest within four months to get their arm-candy back.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Yes Lady recently lent one client $20,600, which was guaranteed with a famous Birkin bag by French luxury label Hermès.

Another happy customer, office worker Angel Yam, received a $1,550 loan for her Chanel bag. “I have too many idle handbags at home,” Yam told the Wall Street Journal, saying she used the money to travel and buy stock and wasn’t too concerned whether she got the bag back. Other clients use the loans to cover school fees or holiday costs while avoiding lengthy credit checks and banking delays.

Luxury goods loans are growing around the world: in Australia the Cash Now Perth loans company also provides loans guaranteed against “luxury cars, boats, jewellery, art and anything of value.”

Expect to see plenty more specialist services popping up, helping cash-strapped luxury lovers take advantage of the assets in their closets.

The best smartphones for the beach

mobile on beach

A selection of handsets that won’t simply survive, but will positively thrive when at the beach.

Let’s face it, our smartphones are so much a part of our lives that our palms are beginning to develop phone-shaped calluses in the same way that pen use once led to knobbly fingers.

Therefore the thought of leaving them behind during the summer break is impossible to consider. However, until now, seawater and sand have not exactly been the best environments for smartphones.

Sony Xperia ZR

Sony Xperia ZR

This is by no means the only water- and dust-resistant Sony smartphone currently on sale, but, with a comparatively small 4.6-inch full HD display and a dedicated camera button, it is the easiest to use, especially with wet or slippery sunscreen-coated hands.

As well as being a very capable Android handset with a great processor and full 4GLTE superfast mobile broadband compatibility, the ZR boasts some very serious camera kit — full HD videos and 13-megapixel stills — what’s more it has a number of settings for underwater photography.

Although it’s not advisable to take it on a scuba dive, the ZR can be submerged in water for up to 30 minutes at a depth of 1.5 meters without any ill effects. The screen uses the same technology found in Sony’s TVs which means it’s easy to view even in direct sunlight, while its stamina technology shuts down apps automatically when not in active use to increase battery life.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Active

Samsung Galaxy SIV Active

Designed for the great outdoors, the SIV Active should be as at home on a mountainside as it is on a long flight or a long day of sunbathing.

Slightly bigger than the Sony due to its 5-inch screen but with a slightly inferior camera –although it has special ‘aqua settings for underwater photography — the Active does offer a number of interesting extras, such as a barometer and compass, and the display will respond to touch from a gloved hand.

The phone has been rated as water-resistant for up to 30 minutes when submerged at a depth of 1 meter and, like the ZX, is also dust-resistant so that sand shouldn’t find its way into the device’s inner grooves, vents and internal workings.

Caterpillar CAT B15

Caterpillar CAT B15

Ok, this handset will not win any beauty contests and when lined up alongside the Sony and Samsung, some of its internal specs leave a lot to be desired too.

However, the CAT is built to be tough and dependable, so tough in fact that it will not only survive a six-foot (1.8 m) fall onto concrete, it should bounce right back up thanks to its ruggedized, rubberized moldings that protect its already robust aluminum chassis.

It is also water and dust resistant, but unlike the others it will also respond to a touch or swipe from a wet hand. It runs Android 4.1, has a 5 megapixel camera and can shoot full HD video. And, despite its toughened frame should still slide easily into a trouser or jacket pocket.

Louis Vuitton presents new shoe collection with Dree Hemingway

 Dree Hemingway LV

The Fall/Winter 2013 shoe collection from the French luxury brand has arrived. Louis Vuitton announced the news by posting a photograph of the American model Dree Hemingway on Facebook.

Elegance and chic style are in the mix for this new collection, which draws inspiration from the brand’s iconic luggage and handbag lines. In fact, the photo inviting Louis Vuitton fans to check out the new footwear depicts more bags than shoes.

Dree Hemingway, the great granddaughter of the American author Ernest Hemingway, poses in a doorway surrounded by Louis Vuitton bags and cases. The image bears a tagline in French: “Settle into the Crillon [hotel in Paris] with Dree Hemingway and the new Louis Vuitton Fall/Winter shoe collection.”

Are you part of the new ‘digital elite’ travel class?

ipad iphone beach

The increasing use of smart technology like phones and tablets in travel planning has spawned a new class who are much more likely to identify themselves as happy, fun, sociable and healthy than their non-digital counterparts.

That’s according to a new report which surveyed more than 1,250 US households and their travel habits and coined a new name for the emerging class: the digital elite.

Produced by MMGY Global/Harrison Group, the “2013 Portrait of Digital Travelers” found that smartphone usage among active travelers nearly tripled in 2 years from 23% in 2011 to 62% in 2013.

That figure spikes even more impressively when it comes to tablets: over the same period, the use of tablets grew from 7 percent in 2011 to 43 percent this year to represent a six-fold increase.

Overall, the report paints a portrait of a new travel demographic more likely than their less-connected counterparts to seek relaxation, booze-fueled fun, nookie and sleep and to catch up on their reading.

They’re better traveled, taking more international trips than those who are less connected, and spend nearly $1,000 more on their vacation.

But these findings should come as little surprise given that those who own smartphones and tablets are also more likely to have more disposable income and who can afford to own a tablet, often a tertiary piece of digital machinery to their phone and PC or laptop.

The digital elite can also be defined as being more active on social media networks like Facebook (81% versus 70% of less-connected users), Twitter, YouTube, Google+ and Pinterest.

Nearly half of this new class also have children who exert a major influence on their travel plans and destinations, say researchers.

And when it comes to personality, the report finds the digital elite see themselves as happier (82 percent identified themselves as happy compared to 72 percent of those with fewer digital devices), more confident, more sociable, healthier and more fit.
