Aston Martin creates $3,000 luxury baby stroller

Aston Martin Silver Cross Surf

Luxury car manufacturer Aston Martin has teamed up with pram company Silver Cross to unveil the ‘world’s most exclusive pram’.

The two companies claim the Aston Martin Edition of the Silver Cross Surf is “designed to perfection with every detail considered”, down to the leather which is an exact match to that used in the cars.

The Silver Cross air-ride suspension guarantees a smooth ride on all terrains and the multi-position handlebar “ensures comfortable pushing for everyone”.

To be sold exclusively at Harrods in London in April, the Aston Martin Silver Cross Surf stroller is set to be one of the most expensive strollers on the market.

Each stroller, which retails for £2,000, will come with its own certificate of authenticity and an engraved brushed chrome plaque to confirm that it is one of a limited edition.

Scarlett Johansson in new D&G cosmetics campaign

Twenty-eight-year-old actress Scarlett Johansson has starred in a new set of shots for Dolce & Gabbana by fashion photographers Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott.

Rolls-Royce Wraith

Rolls-Royce Wraith unveiled

2014 Rolls-Royce Wraith

The wait is over, the teasing has stopped and Rolls-Royce has officially taken the wraps off its latest luxury offering, the Wraith.

This two-door coupe version of the Ghost is the most powerful Rolls-Royce ever. The 6.6-litre V12 engine produces 624bhp and drives the Wraith from 0-60mph in just 4.4 seconds.

However, thanks to an eight-speed automatic transmission, this power is delivered in a smooth, seamless curve so that rear-seat passengers don’t spill their cocktails.

Rolls-Royce Wraith interior

Rolls-Royce emphasizes that although the Wraith benefits drivers in terms of re-worked suspension and reduced body roll, the car is “no GT Bruiser” and everything its engineers have done to increase the car’s sporting credentials has in no way affected its ride, which is still akin to riding on a bed of air.

One ingenious technological feature that the Wraith sports to ensure passenger comfort is satellite-aided transmission (SAT).

Using GPS data to understand the road conditions ahead, beyond the driver’s vision, the system automatically selects the approapriate gear for the upcoming terrain.

Rolls-Royce Wraith inside

Inside, the Wraath’s mix of leather, wood and hand-milled metals whispers opulence, while the Starlight Headliner complete the package.

1,340 fiber optic lamps, hand-woven into the roof lining give occupants the impression they are gazing up at the constellations. Added to this is a voice command system that not only activates the navigation and communications system but also links to a dedicated concierge service.

European prices for the Wraith are expected to start at €245,000 with first deliveries in autumn 2013.

Mercedes Reveals G63 AMG 6×6

Mercedes G63 AMG 6x6

Mercedes-Benz has unveiled its G63 AMG 6×6, a beastly luxury SUV with an insane 536-horsepower and six 37-inch wheels.

The vehicle is built alongside the regular G Class range at Magna Steyr’s operations in Graz, Austria, and was originally developed for the Australian military back in 2011.

Unlike the military version, which is fitted with Mercedes-Benz’s 3.0-liter V6 diesel, the G63 AMG 6×6 gets a twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter V8 with 536 hp.

Torque is a solid 560 lb-ft and is crucial in providing the shove required to haul the truck’s 8,322-pound curb weight. That power is sent through a seven-speed automatic transmission to one heck of a four-wheel-drive system.

G63 AMG 6x6

The 6×6 G63 is still reasonably fast with a 0 to 100 km/h time of under six seconds and top speed of 160 km/h (100 mph – limited).

The G63 AMG 6×6 will be the second most expensive Mercedes-Benz model behind the new $457,000 (350,000 euros) SLS Electric Drive. The luxury SUV officially goes on sale in October. Currently, Mercedes is predicting sales of between 20 and 30 units annually.

Watch the G63 AMG 6×6 powerslide, rock-climb, catch air and generally conquer all that stands in its path in the video below.

An open-toe stiletto pump studded with gold piercings and a black suede shoulder are two of the designs which have been previewed, and which are expected to retail at an average price of $1,200.

According to the Italian the collaboration was a happy accident — “it happened naturally in my atelier where our ideas and skills fused together, listening to music, chatting and having a good time,” he said.

Gordon Ramsay at Claridges

Gordon Ramsay leaving Claridge’s in London

Gordon Ramsay at Claridges

After a 12-year run, Gordon Ramsay is packing up his knives and leaving the kitchens of luxury London hotel Claridge’s.

According to Caterer and HotelkeeperGordon Ramsay at Claridge’s will close June 30, after Ramsay and the hotel owners failed to agree on a long-term contract.

After a falling out with head chef Mark Sargeant, who helped the fine dining eatery gain a Michelin star, the hotel restaurant subsequently lost its standing following his departure in 2009 and has since been criticized for delivering lackluster dishes at exorbitant prices by restaurant guide Harden’s in the UK.

It’s the latest setback for Ramsay’s restaurant empire, particularly in London, where he’s also vacated the kitchens of hotels such as The Berkeley and The Connaught.

The restaurants are now occupied by Marcus Wareing and Hélène Darroze, respectively, points out Caterer and Hospitality.

Meanwhile, as is the pattern with Ramsay, where one restaurant closes, another one opens, as he plans to open another restaurant in London with BFF and soccer star David Beckham in September.

Asia has the world’s most billionaires

Li Ka-shing

Asia has more billionaires than any other continent, a survey by a China-based wealth magazine showed on Thursday, overtaking North America for the first time.

There were 1,453 people around the world with a personal wealth of $1 billion or more as of January, said the Hurun Report, a luxury magazine publisher that compiled the list. Asia had 608 billionaires, North America 440 and Europe 324,.

It is believed to be the first time Asia has been named as home of the largest proportion of super-rich on any global list.

US magazine Forbes said in its most recent international rich list, published in March last year, that the Asia-Pacific region had 315 billionaires, compared to 450 from North America and 310 in Europe.

Among individual countries, the United States and China dominated the Hurun list, with 408 and 317 billionaires respectively, followed by Russia, Germany and India.

Mexican telecoms czar Carlos Slim, 73, was ranked as the “Richest Man on the Planet” with a personal fortune of $66 billion. Slim also topped last year’s Forbes global list.

US investor Warren Buffett and Amancio Ortega of Spain, founder of fashion brand Zara, were second and third in the Hurun Report rankings, with a net worth of $58 billion and $55 billion respectively.

Hong Kong investor Li Ka-shing (pictured above) kept his title of Asia’s richest man with $32 billion, the seventh wealthiest person in the world.

“In China we’ve seen a huge urbanisation boom and that has created a lot of wealth in property,” Rupert Hoogewerf, chairman and chief researcher of the Hurun Report, told AFP.

Zong Qinghou, who heads soft-drink producer Wahaha, and Wang Jianlin of property developer Wanda were the only two from mainland China to make it into the top 100.

The Hurun Report estimated the total wealth of the world’s dollar billionaires at $5.5 trillion, roughly the size of the Japanese economy last year.

“This past year has seen a rebound in the wealth of the private sector,” it said, adding the net assets of the 10 richest people on the list rose 22 percent over the year, or $250 million a day.

Real estate, telecommunications, media and technology and retail were the most common sources of wealth, it added.

Moscow has more billionaires than any other city in the world with 76, it said, edging out New York, Hong Kong, Beijing and London.

Hoogewerf said the true number of billionaires in the world could be three times higher as some super-rich hid their worth.

“Some people deliberately make their wealth a secret because… they gained it through illegal ways,” he told reporters at a press conference. “Some others simply prefer to keep a low profile.”

Dubai rolled out the red carpet Wednesday night for a roster of celebrities that included British singer Leona Lewis to help open the tallest hotel in the world.

In a city already oozing with glitz and glamour, the opening party for the JW Marriott Marquis Dubai amped up the voltage escorting 1,200 party guests into the hotel with fire dances and stilt walkers under the constant flicker of flashbulbs.

At just 26 meters shy of the Empire State Building in NYC, the world’s tallest hotel stands at 355 meters (1,175 feet) and consists of twin towers each with 77 floors.

The Ritz-Carlton Hong Kong, which sits on floors 102-118 of the 1,588-foot International Commerce Centre remains the highest hotel in the world, but the JW Marriott Marquis is the tallest building dedicated entirely to a hotel.

Performances included a headline act by British singer Leona Lewis, while the guest list included appearances by fashion designer Donna Karan, and local celebrities such as singer Salha, the Million Dollar Band as well as TV personality DJ Bliss.

The hotel’s nine restaurants and five bars, which serve a variety of cuisines including Asian-Fusion, Italian, American, German, and steakhouse fare, are now open.

Other Guinness world record holders in Dubai include the Burj Khalifa, which at 828 meters (2,716 feet) is the tallest man-made structure on land, and the Dubai Mall, the largest of its kind in the world.

Plans are also afoot to build the largest Ferris wheel in Dubai, with the Dubai Eye.

Mars

Space tourism… to Mars?

Mars

The world’s first space tourist, Dennis Tito, has unveiled plans to send a manned mission to Mars and back, targeting a launch date less than five years away.

The two space travelers wouldn’t land on the Red Planet — or even enter its orbit — just fly through the vicinity and back, a trajectory Tito said would take 501 days, thanks to a rare planetary alignment.

The US space agency has aimed for the 2030s in its vague projections for a manned mission to Mars, and is focusing in the shorter term on sending robots, like the Curiosity rover that landed with much fanfare last summer.

Tito’s non-profit Inspiration Mars, by contrast, is starting essentially from scratch, with neither a vehicle nor a clear source of funding.

Still, the mission is “achievable,” insisted Taber MacCallum, the foundation’s chief technology officer and the head of Paragon Space Development Corporation.

Such a mission would likely cost between $1 billion and $2 billion, according to Robert Zubrin, president of the Mars Society, a group that campaigns for the exploration and settlement of the planet.

Inspiration Mars said it is not looking to NASA for the money, but will instead raise funds through “private, charitable donations.”
