Chopard Uggie Bow Tie

Uggie the dog, who has garnered much attention after his appearance in the Oscar-winning film The Artist, sported a special custom-made Chopard bowtie of 18 carat gold and satin to the Academy Awards on Sunday.

The bone-shaped charm featured an engraving of his name and will be auctioned off to benefit The Amanda Foundation, which helps homeless animals.

This impressive Ferrari Hydroplane set an unrivalled world record in 1953 and is now set to fetch around $1.5 million at RM Auctions’ Monaco Sale.

Developed in 1952 by wealthy Italian industrialist Achille Castoldi and Ferrari Grand Prix racers Alberto Ascari and Luigi Villoresi, the speedy craft, propelled by a 4500cc V12, handily won the world speed record the following year.

The boat piloted by Castoldi averaged speeds well over 150 mph in 1953. It broke the 24 nautical miles record in the 800 kg category as the Arno XI averaged 102 mph.

A Los Angeles auction house sold a collection of 15 Oscar statuettes for more than $3 million on Tuesday, two days after this year’s Academy Awards show.

The gold-plated prizes included a Best Screenplay Academy Award for the iconic movie “Citizen Kane,” given to Herman Mankiewicz in 1941.

Los Angeles auction house Nate D. Sanders sold the Oscar, which went for $588,455, the highest price for a single statuette. In all the sale earned $3,060,089, including the buyer’s premium.

The new St Regis Doha hotel has welcomed its first guests, as Qatar’s capital embraces an increasingly ambitious future when it comes to tourism.

The new hotel, which offers 336 rooms with views of the Arabian Gulf, is just one of several ambitious hotel projects on the way for Doha, although it’s easily among the most luxurious — guests are offered butler service for the duration of their stay.

The property features some 16,000 square meters of leisure facilities, including a spa by Remède (one of the largest in Doha), an Olympic-size swimming pool, luxury beachfront cabanas with private jacuzzis, a private beach and a gym.
