Oscar de la Renta Fall 2011 Ad Campaign

Oscar de la Renta will follow in the footsteps of Valentino and Karl Lagerfeld by receiving the prestigious Artistry of Fashion award on September 12, 2012.

Organized by The Couture Council of The Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York every September, the Artistry of Fashion award has become a key date in the style calendar and signposts the beginning of Fall Fashion Week.

The creator’s previous gongs include The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA)’s Lifetime Achievement Award back in 1990.

Jean Paul Gaultier has collaborated with Champagne brand Piper-Heidsieck on two new bottles – Black Cancan Millésime 2000 and the Piper-Heidsieck French Cancan.

The Cabaret-inspired French Cancan bottle is dressed in black latex, fishnets and ruby masquerade mask at the neck.

The Black Cancan Millésime 2000’s adornments include a Swarovski Crystallized stocking, a studded collar of diamond-cut crystals, and a JPG seal.

Fairmont Le Labo

Luxury hotel chain Fairmont, which operates 60 hotels around the world, has announced a partnership with New York perfumer Le Labo for its in-room amenities.

The brand announced Novermber 3 that Le Labo’s Rose 31, a Wallpaper magazine Best Perfume of the Year, would be the base of its amenity kits from this fall.

The “warm, spicy floral and woodsy” products included in the lineup will be shampoo, conditioner, body wash, body lotion and soap products.

As Italian stocks crash, truffle prices go up

Italian stock markets are sharply down this year, but the price of white truffle has doubled to 3,000 euros ($4,100) per kilogram in just a week.

Truffle hunters say the increase is due to low average rainfall in areas where truffle is found, as well as higher demand — particularly from buyers in Asia where truffle tastes have taken off, Italian news agency ANSA reported.

The price is now at around 3,000 euros for large truffles and some 2,500 euros per kilogramme for smaller tubers — far higher than last year.

They may now not have a formal home but the people at Hong Kong’s Shanghai Tang brand are still making consumers sit up and take notice.

After 17 years at the Pedder Building in Central, Shanghai Tang lost the bid for the space to Abercrombie & Fitch, which will pay two and half times the previous rent.

And now Shanghai Tang takes up residence from Friday night on Hong Kong’s iconic Victoria Harbour — inside a series of Mongolia “gers” or traditional houses.

India’s luxury sales are expected to expand by a scorching 20 percent annually until 2015, as brand-smitten consumers snap up big names to flaunt their wealth.

Luxury sales were slow to take off in India a decade ago, disappointing retailers who had rushed into what they hoped would be the next China — a vast market of over a billion people with an eye for status symbols.

But now Indian consumers “are quickly catching up with global trends”, according to Neelesh Hundekari, author of the recent “Indian Luxury Review” report.

Tom Ford “could not be happier” about dressing Daniel Craig in upcoming Bond movie Skyfall, scheduled for international release late 2012.

It was revealed November 3 that the designer will be reprising his styling duties for the spy thriller, which is currently being filmed and stars the British actor along with new Bond girls Bérénice Marlohe and Naomie Harris.

Tom Ford dressed current 007 Craig in Quantum of Solace in 2008. He thinks the fictional spy perfectly encompasses his eponymous label’s sleek aesthetic.

The Ralph & Russo-designed dress will be the centrepiece of the department store’s Swarovski-sponsored window displays over the festive season.

The dress, inspired by the decadence of the Twenties, took more than 25 people working on it and is the result of hundreds of hours of man hours.

Australia has unveiled the world’s largest gold coin, weighing a massive 1,000 kg, to mark the visit of Queen Elizabeth II.

The Perth Mint produced it in time for the Queen’s visit to Western Australia for the Commonwealth heads of government meeting.

The coin has a kangaroo on one side and the Queen’s profile on the other. It is nearly 80 cm in diameter and 12 cm thick.
