In recognition of the partnership between Gucci and the Recording Academy, a special edition collection of i-Gucci Grammy watches has been designed by Creative Director Frida Giannini.

The cutting-edge I-Gucci timepiece features a new yellow PVD stainless-steel case that compliments the wide black or white rubber strap which sports the Grammy and Gucci logos.

On the large double-layout digital display is a special tag commemorating the Grammy partnership.

W Hotels debuts on London’s Leicester Square

W Hotels opened its 40th hotel and new flagship in London February 14, bringing the brand’s design-led luxury to the colorful streets of Soho.

The 192-room property stands ten stories tall above the city’s famous Leicester Square and is covered in translucent glass which changes color according to the time of day and the ambience of the area.

The new landmark is designed to establish Starwood’s W Hotels as a truly international luxury design hotel chain.

Brazilian yacht maker Intermarine has collaborated with BMW DesignworksUSA to develop an ultra luxury yacht that has been dubbed Intermarine 55.

Intermarine 55 is inspired by modern architecture and automotive surfacing, such as the BMW X6, and is scheduled to go on sale this July.

Highlights of the new yacht include two head compartments along with a master suite having queen sized bed and an enclosed shower.

Singapore casino Resorts World Sentosa

Just one year after opening its first casino, Singapore has emerged as Asia’s hottest new gambling capital with a revamped cityscape and billions of dollars pouring into the economy.

“Singapore has made a dramatic entry to the casino gaming market,” financial consultancy PricewaterhouseCoopers said in a report estimating the city-state’s casino gaming market at $2.8 billion in 2010.

The first casino opened in Malaysian-controlled Resorts World Sentosa on February 14, 2010, with US-based Las Vegas Sands following two months later as the world economy was still clawing itself out of recession.

Porsche looks set to reconfirm its commitment to hybrid technology at next month’s Geneva Motor Show, according to a statement issued February 11.

The German luxury automaker confirmed to journalists that it would launch a “parallel full hybrid model” at the show.

Porsche said that the new model is being launched in the wake of the success of the Cayenne S Hybrid, unveiled at last year’s Geneva Show, which has received fairly good reviews in Europe and the US.

Marlow & Sons, an eaterie in the city’s trendy Williamsburg neighborhood, wants clients to be able to remember their meals forever by purchasing items such as bags made from the hide of cows and other animals served up from the kitchen.

“We want something people could enjoy beyond their dinner,” Kate Huling, wife of the owner, told AFP. “They come in, they eat, they leave and usually think of something else. So the bags really preserve and honor that animal.”

The growing list of billionaires in India is an enticing prospect for executive jet makers seeking to recover from a slump in demand caused by the financial crisis.

Prominent among exhibitors at the ongoing Aero India 2011 air show in Bangalore were manufacturers such as US-based Gulfstream and Brazil’s Embraer — both hoping to seduce corporate high-flyers with their luxury private planes.

The global private jet market had a hard landing in 2008-09, with jet prices plunging by up to 30 percent and actual flying time falling by an estimated 40 percent.

Local firms using Facebook and other social media to market themselves are garnering brand recognition on a par with luxury heavyweights like Gucci and Louis Vuitton, a study showed Thursday.

Findings by Firefly Millward Brown showed Singapore retail chains being identified alongside famous international labels as the most recognisable brands.

Social media users in Singapore placed yoghurt chain Soghurt and local grooming firm Juup Nails alongside famous names such as Louis Vuitton, Gucci and Adidas in terms of brand recognition, the study showed.

Pop-Up hotel to open on London rooftop

Thanks to A Room for London design contest, the city’s visitors will be able to stay at a temporary one-bedroom apartment on the roof of the Southbank Centre.

The winning design is a draft by London-based David Kohn Architects and the artist Fiona Banner of a ‘houseboat’ on top of the Queen Elizabeth Hall.

Commissioned by Living Architecture and Artangel, the unusual shelter will be part of the London 2012 festival, with bookings opening September this year.

A celebrated masterpiece by Pablo Picasso has sold at Sotheby’s auction house in London for £25.2 million ($40,5 million), more than double its pre-auction valuation.

“La Lecture” is a work from the Spanish painter’s “annus mirabilis,” 1932, and depicts the artist’s famous muse, Marie-Therese Walter.

Seven bidders vied for the coveted Picasso work, the hammer eventually coming down after six minutes of bidding to finalise the sale to an anonymous phone buyer.

If you’re planning on whisking a loved one away this Valentine’s Day (February 14), Italy is the place to go according a new poll.

The survey, conducted by Skyscanner, revealed that a full third of the 1000 respondents questioned believed Italy was the world’s most romantic destination.

France, the more traditional getaway for the world’s romantics, took second place with 19 percent of the votes and the Caribbean took third place with nine percent.

As part of Maison, the new furniture line recently unveiled in Paris, Hermes will re-release certain iconic pieces that Jean-Michel Frank designed in 1924.

Among them is the Confortable armchair, a straw-marquetry screen, a shagreen-covered vanity and the designer’s X-base dining table.

Previously, the company’s furniture was limited to Pippa, a small collection by the architect Rena Dumas, who designed Hermès stores and who was married to Jean-Louis Dumas, the chairman of Hermès from 1978 to 2006.
