Jude Law and Guy Ritchie team up for Dior ad

British actor, Jude Law, who has been the face of the Dior Homme fragrance for the past two years, will star in a new short film for the perfume.

The movie, shot in Paris in March, was directed by Guy Ritchie, while photographer Peter Lindbergh was responsible for the image campaign.

Rendez-vous will be released at diorhommeparis.com on August 3. Short teasers, The Dressing and The Phone Call can already be watched online.

New York hotel offers dog teepees

New York’s luxury Essex House hotel is to launch amenities for dogs, its owner Jumeirah confirmed July 28.

It plans to launch a five-star “canine turndown service” for its four-legged guests in partnership with Amy Kizer, who founded dog accessory line Wagwear.

Among the products will be a Wagwear dog bed or Tee Pee Hound Lounge, a dog-sized tent with a fleece-lined bed to keep pampered pooches comfortable during their stay.

Luxury car worth £1.2m clamped outside Harrods

A luxury car valued at £1.2m was clamped outside Harrods in central London after being illegally parked.

The Koenigsegg CCXR and a £350,000 Lamborghini Murcielago LP670-4 SuperVeloce were both clamped on the afternoon of 22 July.

Kensington and Chelsea Council said the light-blue vehicles were in serious contravention of parking rules.

Cessna Announces Citation Mustang High Sierra

The Cessna Aircraft Company introduced at the opening day of AirVenture 2010 a new upgrade package for its Citation Mustang.

The $75,000 package includes a more luxurious interior, a special paint scheme, a two-year maintenance programme, synthetic vision, electronic charts and locking fuel caps.

It is the first upgrade package Cessna has offered since the Mustang entered service in 2007. Cessna has since delivered over 300 Mustangs.

Hilton Opens China’s First Luxury Airport Hotel

Hilton Hotels has opened the first five-star airport hotel in China, at Beijing International Airport.

The luxury hotel, which is close to the airport’s newest terminal three building, will cater to the rapidly increasing number of wealthy travelers in China.

It contains 322 rooms and seven restaurants and bars, along with two full-size ballrooms and a 25-meter indoor swimming pool.

MegaYacht Orchid by Luiz de Basto and Lurssen

The newest cruiser that joins the fleet of luxury yachts is the ‘Orchid’. It’s most striking aspect is its intelligent design layout and the accommodation she offers for a yacht of her size.

Designed by famous yacht designer Luiz de Basto and the German shipyard Lurssen Yachts, the 88-meter Orchid motor yacht features a reduced number of cabins for the yacht of her size.

The megayacht accommodates just eight guests, with large windows in the four staterooms to take in the view.

The designer and builder have kept the number down to increase the amount of space devoted to saloons, dining areas, alfresco spaces, and other entertainment and relaxation areas that everyone can use.

The year’s best iPhone travel apps

Kayak has been named the best reservations app by influential Travel + Leisure magazine, which published its 2010 Top Travel Apps in its August edition.

The Kayak app beat competition from Expedia’s TripAssist and the Travelocity app, to take the best Trip Planning app choice, which was one of 53 apps selected by Travel + Leisure as their favorites of 2010.

Other highlights included the free TripIt for “keeping on top of your trip,” Packing Pro, to help “prep your suitcase,” Hop Stop for urban transportation and the recently-released StayHip for boutique hotels.

New TAG Heuer Meridiist Luxury Phones Announced

Luxury watch maker TAG Heuer has announced three new models of its Meridiist phone, all of which share the same overall design, but sport different finishes.

The Tag Heuer Meridiist Black Diamond is PVD-coated and is made out of 316L stainless steel, 18-carat pink gold, lizard leather, and 1.34-carat diamonds.

The Tag Heuer Meridiist Stainless steel & Rose Gold is also dressed in 18-carat pink gold, stainless steel and leather (alligator), but it doesn’t have diamonds.

Hassanal Bolkiah, Sultan of Brunei is the proud collector of what is undeniably the world’s most unique and gargantuan car collection.

The Sultan of Brunei’s collection of over 7,000 cars includes some of the fastest, most expensive and rarest motors on the planet.

According to the Daily Mirror, he owns 604 Rolls-Royces, 574 Mercedes-Benzes, 452 Ferraris, 382 Bentleys, 209 BMWs, 179 Jaguars, 134 Koenigseggs, 21 Lamborghinis, 11 Aston Martins, and 1 SSC.

The complete collection is stored and serviced in five secret aircraft hangars, where specialist teams from the various manufacturers maintain it.

The total price of the collection containing 7,000 high-performance cars is US$5 billion.

Dolce & Gabbana to Dress Chelsea Soccer Players

Dolce & Gabbana will design the formal club suits for Chelsea Football team after signing a new three-year partnership, according to Vogue UK.

Using the club’s signature blue, the designer duo have created two outfits for the players – the first comprises a three piece suit with an embroidered logo crest.

The second comprises a pair of jeans worn with a shirt and black trainers. Both looks will be finished off with a black wool fitted coat.

Mercedes-Benz Launches SLS AMG in Hong Kong

Mercedes-Benz Hong Kong have launched their flagship sports car SLS AMG in the city, making Hong Kong one of the first Asian markets to get the Gullwing super sports car within the first few weeks of its production.

The car is the first Mercedes automobile designed in-house by AMG and is described by Mercedes as a spiritual successor to the 300SL Gullwing.

In celebration of the launch of their new car, Mercedes-Benz Hong Kong held a ceremony on July 16th at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Honda shows off its first private jet

Honda has been showing off its first ever aircraft at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh, saying that the jet should fly by the end of the year.

The HondaJet is the first venture into aviation for Honda, more commonly known for its cars and motorcycles, with the brand saying that it incorporates many technological advances in aviation design.

Among them are engines that are mounted above the wing instead of below, which Honda says significantly reduces drag (improving fuel efficiency), cuts noise pollution on the ground and creates additional space in the aircraft cabin.

Porsche working on high-performance EVs

Porsche has announced that it plans to take on Tesla by developing its own high performance electric sports cars.

The German premium brand revealed July 26 that it has already electrified three of its Boxster sports cars and is currently testing them in Stuttgart.

The research cars are being used to test batteries and the new electric drive components developed by Porsche, as well as the infrastructure needed to make EV sports cars a reality.

“We will definitely be offering electric sports cars in the future,” said Michael Macht, the President and CEO of Porsche AG.

Hong Kong prepares for rare Chinese stamp auction

International stamp collectors are all aflutter this week as Hong Kong prepares to host an auction of rare Chinese stamps including a copy of the fabled “1897 Red Revenue” — known as the most valuable Chinese stamp there is.

Hosted by Interasia Auctions, the sale will feature 2,200 lots representing the stamp and postal history of China, Hong Kong and Asia and will be held on July 31-August 1 at the Park Lane Hotel in Hong Kong.

International collectors will be able to bid online for such items as the 1897 Red Revenue Small 2c Green Surcharge which is known as the “The Red Lady in the Green Dress” and could sell for as much as HK$10 million ($1,300,000).

Her commercial for Miss Dior Chérie is still a favorite of beauty and fashion fans, and it looks as if Dior wants to repeat this success.

Filmmaker Sofia Coppola was spotted shooting with Natalie Portman (the new face of Dior perfumes) in Paris this week, prompting rumors that Coppola is the creative force behind the luxury label’s new fragrance campaign.

Coppola has previously starred in ads for fellow LVMH brand, Louis Vuitton, whose creative director, Marc Jacobs she is close friends with.

Aerion Supersonic Business Jet

Ten years after the Concorde disaster at Charles De Gaulle airport in Paris, and seven years after the turbojet-powered airliners were finally grounded, the age of supersonic air transport is about to recommence.

Nevada’s Aerion Corporation is advertising its Aerion Supersonic Business Jet (SBJ), described as an $80 million, super fast executive plane which the company says is able to reach a speed of Mach 1.5 (1,840 km/h).

This Aerion SBJ will make it possible to fly from Paris to New York in four hours and 14 minutes, shaving three hours off the trip compared to conventional jets.
