Mariah Carey to Launch Champagne Line

Mariah Carey is launching her own champagne, weeks after giving a loopy five-minute acceptance speech at the Palm Springs International Film Festival.

Soon after her tipsy proclamations at the event, the star updated her Twitter account to announce her very own line of rose champagne, christened Angel!

“Didn’t realize they put the champagne on the tables, So we WOULDN’T drink it! LoL,”. “No, seriously ANGEL CHAMPAGNE (ROSE) by MC coming soon!”

Largest book in the world to go on display

The British Library announced January 26 that it will display the “largest book in the world” for the first time to the general public as part of its summer exhibition Magnificent Maps: Power, Propaganda and Art.

Measuring in at nearly six feet (1.8 meters) tall, the book is a 1660 atlas made for Charles II of England.

Johan Maurits of Nassau is credited with creating The Klencke Atlas, which Amsterdam merchant Johannes Klencke apparently presented to Charles II of England upon the king’s restoration to the throne in 1660.

Victoria Beckham to design Dubai hotel ?

London’s Mirror reports that the ruler of Dubai offered Victoria Beckham $40 million to help design a luxury hotel.

Sheik Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum personally wrote Beckham an email explaining his offer, the story says.

He reportedly asked her to put her name on the hotel and consult on the choice of room design and furnishings.

Kate Moss’s handbags for Longchamp

Longchamp has released pictures of Kate Moss’s first range for the brand, which will be launched at The Ritz during the haute couture week in Paris.

Moss worked with Sophie Delafontaine to create the bags, which center around the three themes of Rock’n’Casual, Rock’n’Travel and Rock’n’Glam.

The collection comprises models ranging from party clutches to shoppers and travel bags, all in red and black leather as well as zebra prints.

Chinese city renames mountain after ‘Avatar’

A city in central China has renamed a mountain after the US blockbuster movie “Avatar,” which set a Chinese box office record.

The majestic peak in Hunan province previously known as “Heaven and Earth Pillar” or “South Sky Pillar” has been officially renamed “Avatar Hallelujah Mountain,” the Zhangjiajie city government said in a statement.

The statement said the peak was believed to have inspired a floating mountain, one of the most dramatic images in the movie, set on fictional Pandora.

Ferran Adria to Close El Bulli Temporarily

Molecular gastronomy maven Ferran Adria has announced that he will close his famed Catalonian restaurant El Bulli for all of 2012 and 2013.

The three Michelin star El Bulli, tucked away on the Catalan coast, was last year named the world’s best restaurant by Restaurant magazine in Britain.

Picasso painting damaged at New York museum‎

A woman who was taking an art class at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art has accidentally fallen into a $130million Picasso painting and damaged it.

The painting called The Actor sustained a vertical tear of about six inches (15cm) in the lower right-hand corner.

The woman was attending an adult education class last week when she lost her balance and fell against The Actor, damaging the lower right corner.

Travel comparison and booking site Trivago has published a list of the most popular European five-star hotels with rates under £50 (€57).

According to Trivago, the average rate at a five-star hotel in the top 50 European cities is £165 (€189).

However, the site has compiled ten destinations where guests can enjoy the trappings of five-star luxury for half that price.

European Yacht of the Year winners unveiled

The winners of the European Yacht of the Year Award have been unveiled at the boot Düsseldorf show.

The Luxury Cruiser award went to Halberg Rassy’s 372, an 11.35-meter performance yacht that was praised for being “surprisingly fast” and having “fantastic performance in rough seas.”

Boasting five deck hatches for access to the luxurious interior, the craft marries “quality in materials with modern taste for light interiors” according to the judges.
