BA launches luxury service to New York

British Airways will launch a luxury, all-business class transatlantic service today featuring flat beds and the latest communications technology.

The twice-daily service between London City Airport and New York offers 32 seats in specially configured Airbus A318 aircraft.

Return fares will start at £1,901 and passengers will be able to send emails and texts and use the internet while aboard.

Pantech debuts new luxury phone for S.T. Dupont

The French company S.T. DuPont has decided to enter the mobile market by making a cell phone in collaboration with Pantech.

Of course, a luxury model like the Pantech Sky Dupont IM-U510LE is less about the features and more about appearance.

The handset has gold-plated edges and it features a 3 inch touchscreen display, 2G-only connectivity, GPS and a 3MP camera.

Restaurant manager Jason Hargett of the Ruby River Steakhouse in Provo, Utah had a life changing day on the golf course on Tuesday.

He was in attendance at the Mark Eaton Classic charity golf event benefiting the Utah Diabetes Center at Red Ledges in Heber City.

He made a last minute decision to participate and soon discovered they were holding a contest: Get a hole-in-one, win $1 million.

China has 130 billionaires

Today, Hurun Report released the names of the Top Two Richest Individuals from the 2009 Hurun Rich List, a ranking of the 1000 richest individuals in China.

Wang Chuanfu of BYD is the richest man in China with wealth of US$5.1 billion, followed by Zhang Yin of Nine Dragons Paper with wealth of US$4.9 billion.

The number of known US Dollar billionaires in China has grown to 130, up from 101 in 2008. The full list is to be released later in October.

Paul Smith, known for his sense of fun and optimistic attitude, has designed a bottle for Evian which will be on sale in limited amounts until Christmas.

Russian tycoon to buy New Jersey Nets

Billionaire oligarch Mikhail Prokhorov, Russia’s richest man well-known as a sports fan, could become the first foreign owner of a major US basketball team after making a bid for the New Jersey Nets.

Prokhorov had offered to fund a new $700m stadium for the NBA team in New York and he would then acquire the Nets for a symbolic $1 stake.

He boasts that if his move is successful, it would be the first time a National Basketball Association club would come under foreign control.

Electric Rolls-Royce Phantom on the way?

According to Auto Express in the U.K, The most-luxurious car maker in the world is considering an electric variant of its flagship saloon, the Phantom.

While details are non-existent, the Phantom EV could actually be a hybrid-electric vehicle like the Mercedes Vision S 500 plug-in hybrid.

This would likely make more sense, because a pure electric Phantom would likely suffer from an extremely limited range, worldcarfans says.

Reuters reports that Salvatore Ferragamo has designed a limited collection to raise funds for breast cancer groups called the Pink Collection.

The collection will go on sale in October, which is celebrated as breast cancer awareness month.

10 per cent of Ferragamo’s sales in Asia (Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, Korea, Singapore, India and Australia) will go to breast cancer foundations.

1881 Heritage opens in Hong Kong

1881 Heritage is the Former Marine Police Headquarters that has recently been rejuvenated and re-integrated as a high-end shopping site in Hong Kong.

These buildings were constructed between 1881 and 1920, and declared as monuments under the Hong Kong Antiquities and Monuments Ordinance.

The 120-year-old site occupies 12,000 sqm near Victoria Harbour in Tsim Sha Tsui and will also feature a boutique hotel.

Russian Oligarch Roman Abramovich has installed a laser based anti-paparazzi shield on his new record breaking mega yacht – the Eclipse.

Measuring 557ft long, it boasts two swimming pools, two helipads and an onboard missile defence system.

The boat’s anti-paparazzi system, described in several reports as a “laser shield”, is a little less science fiction than it sounds.

Obama’s Secret Service Watch

While most makers of luxury goods have suffered in the recession, watchmaker Jorg Gray can thank Barack Obama for helping it weather the downturn.

The president has been wearing one of the company’s watches since August 2007, when he got it as a gift from his Secret Service agents for his birthday.

The company says that the Secret Service originally was looking for a watch for the team, something rugged, good looking, and highly accurate. It was decided to give one to Obama so he would be wearing the same watch as his detail.

Mini Coupe and Mini Roadster concepts debut

Mini has celebrated its 50th anniversary at the Frankfurt Motor Show with the Coupe Concept and Roadster Concept.

BMW has already confirmed these two concepts are headed for production, expanding the Mini line-up to no less than six models.

The original hatch has been joined by a convertible and the Clubman extended wagon, and there’s a crossover utility version on its way.
