Top 50 Chinese Artists By Auction Sales

Today sees the launch of the Hurun 2009 Art List, ranking China’s top fifty living artists by the total volume of sales of their work at public auction in the year 2008.

The list was produced for the second year ever by the chinese magazine “The Hurun Report”, in partnership with Artron.

The Hurun Art List demonstrates that in 2008, collection of Chinese art remained stable and the interest of Chinese collectors in art assets grew.

First Audi R8 Sells For $500,000

The first 2010 Audi R8 V-8 headed for the States was auctioned off last weekend at the Boca Raton Concours d’ Elegance for an astonishing half-million dollars.

The lucky winning bidder for the first R8 V-10 in the U.S. also receives an official certificate of authenticity.

Audi of America was so impressed with the interest in the first car that a second R8 V-10 was offered up and sold that evening.

Yves Saint Laurent Sale Sets Many Records

The three-day sale of the magnificent Collection of Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Berge at the Grand Palais, offered by Christie’s in association with Pierre Berge & Associates auctioneers, realised in total $483,835,144.

A remarkable 95.5% of lots sold by lot, and 93% sold by value, ArtDaily reports.

This historic sale set a world record for the most valuable private collection sold at auction, was the highest grossing sale in Europe on record, and set multiple world records for Impressionist and Modern Art, 20th Century Decorative Arts, Silver, Sculpture and Works of Art.

France’s First W Hotel Will Open in 2011

W Hotels has announced plans to open their very first Paris property by 2011. It will be close to Place Vendome, in the Opera area of the city.

W Paris-Opera will feature 90 stylish guest rooms, a world-class contemporary restaurant and destination bar, a state-of-the-art fitness facility with spa treatment rooms, and W Hotels’ signature lounge experience where guests are invited to mix, mingle and relax in a chic social atmosphere.

The hotel will be inside a “quintessentially Parisian” 1870s Haussmann-era building, close to the Galleries Lafayette.

Top Dubai International Boat Show takes a “Dive”

The 17th edition of the biggest and most recognized international boat show in the Middle East, DIBS, will open its doors in Dubai from March 3 to March 7, 2009.

There will be 721 companies representing 50 countries and a special section focusing on the world of diving.

Gone are the days when the people of this country would venture out to sea only to fish or collect pearls. Instead of the traditional wooden Dhows gracing these waters, one can now admire shiny, expensive yachts and the very, very expensive Superyachts.

Zagato Perana Z-One

Two new performance machines were just announced in South Africa in the past weeks.

Earlier we saw the covers come off the oddly-named Barnard supercar, an ominous, all-black Le Mans style racer with the heart of a Porsche. Today we have the first details about the Perana Z-One.

Zagato, a design and engineering services company located just outside of Milan, has teamed up with South Africa’s Perana Performance Group to build this sweet looking car which will be unveiled at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show next month.

Superyacht: 85m concept from Van Geest Design

Van Geest Design has released details and images of their latest superyacht design concept, a 85m vessel that contains two principal aspects; crisp contemporary lines and an open air lifestyle.

The yacht will have four decks, with a plumb bow and a low superstructure used to give the yacht a balanced look.

To deliver the design aim of outside lifetsyle the vessel’s transom has been cut open to the water level, thus allowing passengers to relax in the immediate vicinity of the water.

Manhattan loft sold for record sum of $30 million

Skyloft Penthouse in New York City’s Tribeca neighborhood has become the most expensive condominium ever sold in downtown Manhattan.

Conceived by James Carpenter Design Associates, the modern duplex loft with distinctive glass constructions sits on top of a building dating from the 1920s and offers panoramic views of the city from the 14th floor.

The interior of the 145 Hudson Street loft is the work of Roger Marvel Architects and is meant to bring together the inside and outside spaces, for instance through the presence of glass doors leading onto terraces.

Maserati has launched the limited edition Momaboma eco-bag, dedicated to all female car-mad fashionistas.

Momaboma is an Italian company that creates handbags and accessories exclusively out of vintage materials, such as old newspapers, magazines and clothes.

These bags are entirely hand-made in Italy, like Maserati cars. They are unique because they are made of old brochures recovered from the Maserati archives: 95-year of history come back to a new life.

Nobody wants Shaquille O’Neal’s home

According to the New York Post, Shaquille O’Neal, one of the most dominant players in the history of NBA, is having some issues selling his home on Star Island on Miami Beach.

The Phoenix Suns center just is marketing the mansion for sale at $25 million, which is $10 million less than its highest asking price back in November 2007, when the deal fell through.

Sotheby’s Aspen Closed

If there was any doubt that the luxury real estate industry is facing financial issues, the latest casualty in Aspen, Sotheby’s International Realty, should dispell that notion.

Sotheby’s closed their doors on Feb 13th, after running into financial difficulties and the franchise will be taken over by a former rival, Morris and Fyrwald Real Estate.

The luxury ski resort business has been hard hit by the financial crisis, and the value of sales in Aspen fell 46% in 2008, with the trend continuing.
