Irish Caste for Sale

Here’s a real chance of owning and being a part of real Irish history. The castle’s historic roots date back to the 10th century and it is located on an ancient druidic ceremonial ground.

It was burned down in 1922 but rebuilt in 1928. It was sold to The State in 1951 but then the Ryan family bought it in 1994 and turned it into a hotel.

It has been used for weddings and events (over 1400 couples have married here in the past 14 years) but could also be converted back into a private residence.

Limited Edition Chivas Regal Bottle By Alexander McQueen

Recently the “haute couture” bottle design has become a huge craze. We previously had Jean Paul Gaultier designing limited edition Evian ‘couture’ and ‘pret-a-porter’ water bottles.

And now we have Scottish Whisky maker Chivas Regal that have teamed up with British designer Alexander McQueen to create a limited edition bottle for their Gold Signature 18 Year whiskey, just in time for Christmas.

The limited edition bottle is clad in a blue leather dress and features a gold label as well as a cork made in McQueen’s signature Union Jack colors.

“This is a piece of art which reflects the luxury and craftsmanship values of what haute couture is all about,” McQueen tells Vogue UK. “You can see my signature ‘stamp’ with the blue leather ‘dress’ and the Union Jack colors. I have created a rare collector’s item that those with an eye for design will want to keep.”

Only 2,000 individually numbered bottles are being produced and will be available exclusively from deluxe UK department store Selfridges, for about 300 British pounds (currently about $490).

The Chanel Pavilion in Central Park

Fresh off stints in Tokyo and Hong Kong, Chanel’s UFO-like mobile art pavilion is making a stop in Central Park before being transported over to London, Moscow and Paris.

The curled shiny structure is full of art inspired by Chanel’s iconic quilted leather Chanel handbag – pieces like an enormous Chanel handbag spilled over.

The work has drawn criticism for its cluelessness, and its place in the Park, which the New York Times calls an “instrument of psychological healing for the weary.”

Third-largest cut diamond goes on display

The world’s third largest cut diamond, otherwise known as the “Incomparable Diamond,” went on display this weekend at the Royal Ontario Museum. It weighs in at 407.08 carats, has been graded ‘flawless’ by the Gemological Institute of America, is kite shaped and has a beautiful golden yellow color, all of which combine to create its very unique and individual beauty.

It was found as an 890-carat rough diamond by a young girl in the Mbuji-Maya district of the Democratic Republic of Congo in the early 1980s as she played in a pile of rubble from a nearby diamond mine.

The diamond was bought and sold numerous times prior to being acquired by Mr. Samuels and Mr. Glick. Mr. Samuels, a master cutter charged with cutting the diamond, initially hoped to break the record for the largest cut diamond in the world. It was determined, however, that size would be sacrificed for perfect clarity. Following four years of study and cutting, the 407- carat Incomparable Diamond emerged along with fourteen other “satellite” diamonds cut from the one 890-carat rough diamond. Five of these “satellites” are to be exhibited alongside the Incomparable Diamond.

The diamond will be on display until March 22nd of next year as part of the museum’s The Nature of Diamonds engagement. “The Nature of Diamonds,” running from Oct. 25 to March 22, is billed as “the most wide-ranging exhibition ever developed on the allure of diamonds.” It looks at the geologic origins of diamonds, how they are mined, their cultural significance and uses in science and technology.

Michael Schumacher World Champion Tower by LAVA

Another day, another spectacular tower in Dubai: The Michael Schumacher World Champion Tower, a curvy building “inspired by the geometrical order of a snowflake and the aerodynamics of a Formula 1”, will not only appear in Dubai but in six other cities around the world.

According to the architects who worked in Beijing’s Water Cube, the design will allow for an easy construction process and an efficient use of energy, all while making the building change its look through the day.

The building features an iconic silhouette and a facade characterised by vertical slots with private balconies. A series of reflective fins generates a vertical dynamic and gives the building a constantly changing appearance.

The fins track the sun, control the solar shading and dissolve the rationality of the plan into a continuously evolving building volume. The facade’s continuous surface enables curvature with a lot of repetition and the potential for standardisation in the building process. State-of-theart engineering and innovative materials will be used to achieve a fully sustainable performance. The construction will begin in early 2009 and the tower is scheduled to be completed in June 2011.

Well, it seems like now all you have to do to have a skyscraper named after you is to win seven Formula 1 championships so you better get started, the clock is running.

Rolex Daytona Everose Chronograph

Rolex is a brand of watch that has shown its elegance and sophistication in watch making. They are known in creating luxury watches and as part of their Oyster collection this 2008, they are releasing another variation of their chronograph made of the special Everose gold alloy developed by Rolex which contains gold, copper and platinum.

The case of this Cosmograph Daytona Everose is made with 18 carat rose gold which measures 40 mm. This watch also features its capability to endure shocks and magnetic fields through their Parachrom spiral.

Upper-class theaters coming to U.S.

A new deluxe movie cinema is set to open this October in suburban Chicago, one of 50 multiplexes set for construction in the U.S. over the next five years. These new theaters will offer plush reserved reclining armchair seats with footrests, a lounge and bar serving cocktails and appetizer, and upscale food and beverage offerings with seat-side waiter service.

You’ll get to pick your seats online and simply pull your car up to valet service. When you get to your arm-chair reclining seats, just push a button and your server will show up to take your order from a gourmet menu.

Some of this is already offered in the estimated 300 premium theaters around the country, but what Village Roadshow Gold Class Cinema hopes to bring to the table is a 40-seat-maximum patron capacity and an even higher-end atmosphere. Each complex will typically house eight screens, and will be housed in high-end shopping centers and malls.

So how much will this high end experience cost? An estimated $35 a ticket ($25 for matinee) ! The only way I would pay $35 to see a film was if they guaranteed people in the audience wouldn’t talk through the entire movie, or make really loud chewing sounds by eating with their mouth completely open ^_^
